5.0 out of 5 stars Very Fun Game
I purchased this game for my grandkids to play when they visit my home. The adult parents monopolized the game for the whole day! I was amazed at how much fun it was for adults and the older grandkids alike.

3.0 out of 5 stars Computer Version is Better, December 27, 2008

This review is from: Cake Mania In The Mix (Video Game)
I have been playing Cake Mania on the computer for quite some time and I LOVE it. So I was very excited when I saw it was coming out for the Wii. I received it about 2 weeks ago and have played it for about 4 hours total. The graphics are nothing like they are on the computer. I have trouble seeing what the customers are ordering as some of the shapes look almost identical, especially when you get into the double layer cakes. It's harder to click on things, and in your chain of actions, you can only set one thing down before you have to wait to set another down. It's still an entertaining and adicting game. I just prefer the computer. I hope they come out with a 2 and 3 for the Wii, and do a better job on the graphics.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun game, the computer version is better...., January 8, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Cake Mania In The Mix (Video Game)
Like the previous reviewer, I have been playing this game for quite some time on the computer and the Nintendo DS. So I was very excited when they announced this game for the Nintendo Wii. When I found out about it, I ran out and pre-ordered it from the local game store. Got it home and I was so excited to play! But to my disappointment, it was the exact same story line as Cake Mania 2 for the PC and Nintendo DS. I only played a couple of minutes because I knew exactly how it would end, as I had beaten it on the DS. The best thing about this game is the two player mode. My best friend and I once sat and played it for 4 hours straight. But (like the other reviewer stated), the cakes are so small that it is hard to tell what to make sometimes. The graphics really do need some improvement. I do hope for future Cake Mania games for the Wii, but with much better graphics.

3.0 out of 5 stars Oddly addicting, August 13, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Cake Mania In The Mix (Video Game)
I haven't played the computer version. I find myself oddly addicted to this game - I can't stop "baking cakes". My husband can't figure out what the attraction is, but I find it very challenging. It's a game you can play casually, but at the same time you really have to concentrate to pass a level (month) and go on to the next one. As you earn money, you can purchase upgrades for your kitchen (once you get the top-level stove, boy does that thing go fast!). I wish there was another shoe upgrade because I wish she walked faster.

If you haven't played the computer version and can pick up a discounted/used version of this game, I'd recommend it - once you get the hang of it, it really cooks!

3.0 out of 5 stars frustrating, January 30, 2009

This review is from: Cake Mania In The Mix (Video Game)
I love cake mania but this version is way too hard to control. People who have played it on the pc or the ds know how much easier those are compared to this one. The ds version is hands down the funnest one out there. I was excited to see this in the store but really disappointed with how hard it was to control what was going on. I traded it in the day after I bought it. It was a huge waste of money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating, August 5, 2010

My girls and I have played this game on the PC so I was excited to try it out on the Wii. I watched my 8-year-old happily making cakes until about the sixth level... all of a sudden an impossible scenario presented itself. She want from ecstatic to extremely frustrated in just one level. I even gave it a try and had a hard time when it came to multiple orders (2 cakes for one customer) and layered. It's sad :( My girls now play the first 4 chapters and then start over... course.. it's not been touched in about 2 weeks.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Worst Cake Ever Made, February 22, 2010

I fell in love with Cake Mania on the DS and have tried it on every platform I could find it on since. This version is so frustrating, I wish I hadn't wasted the money. The sensor limitations get annoying (wasting time trying to change a tv channel or select the right cake shape) but even more annoying than that is the unbearable loading time in this game. It's so bad it would be upsetting for an rpg or otherwise extremely more detailed game. This game just can't justify it's loading time. It's deathly slow and happens (at least) twice before/after each level. The graphics have been cleaned up beautifully from the pc equivalent, I admit, but not enough to justify the loading time at all. If they try again they either need to make it use Wii Motion Plus and/or have the ability to play without the sensor bar at all, but at this point I would hesitate to buy another version of this game on this system. HUGE disappointment. Do yourself a favor and buy this game on ANY other platform.

1.0 out of 5 stars Controls too difficult to use on the Wii, June 28, 2009
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Cake Mania In The Mix (Video Game)
I bought this game at a going-out-of-business sale, hoping it might be a fun game to play with others. I have played the computer game, but was hoping this would be different. The story is not the same and the controls are very difficult to use and are frustrating. I'm an adult and I'm not on my Wii constantly, but I don't find this game fun to play at all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Consider carefully before buying this, January 22, 2009

I've never played the computer version of this game, but I do own it for the DS. I was OBSESSED with this game when I played it for the DS, so I was excited when the Wii version came out. However, there are a few things to note before you purchase the Wii version of this game, whether you've played it for either the PC or the DS, or if you've never played it before.

FOR THOSE WHO'VE PLAYED
* Nothing new to worry about in regards to game play. It is set up almost exactly the same as the PC/DS version.
* New assets in the game, like the ability to send cakes to friends via online, makes it slightly different than the PC/DS version. However, the assets aren't enough to make it feel like you've got something new in your game collection.
* Auto-save function is still in place, so that after each round, the game automatically saves for you. I'm the only one who plays the game, so I'm not sure how many players can be linked to the game (the DS version only allowed three names).

FOR THOSE WHO'VE NEVER PLAYED
* Fairly easy to understand game play. You bake cakes per the customers' orders. Your character starts off moving fairly slowly, but with upgrades, you can move faster, bake faster, and decorate faster!
* There are tutorials that precede important stages of game play. For example, there is a tutorial to teach you how to play, right from the get-go. And when they introduce new elements, like two-tiered cakes, there is a tutorial prior to when you actually start that particular stage.

RANDOM NOTES
* The shapes on the oven and the colors on the froster are pretty small. If you hold the arrow on the oven, the shapes zoom in, so at least the game makes it easier for you to select the shape that you need. The froster, however, can be a little frustrating. Like the cake shapes, the colors of the froster zoom in for selection. However, the sprinkles on the brown frosting are difficult to see at times, and I wound up making a few cakes that were supposed have brown frosting with the brown-sprinkled frosting. This would, I imagine, get frustrating for some players.
* The loading time between screens seems excruciatingly long. I am guessing that this is because of the auto-save. It takes a while for the screens to load from screen to screen, which got annoying to me. This loading lag time is not present in the DS version.
* For those of you interested, the Endless Game is far more fun than the regular game play. I like the idea of just continually making cakes and challenging myself with trying to complete all of the orders rather than follow the story arc of the game (especially since it's the exact same story as the DS version).

Overall, this wouldn't be a bad game to have in your collection. It would be fun for those who are interested in these types of skill games, but I don't know if I would buy the game new. Don't get me wrong. I love the DS version; spent a lot of sleepless nights baking those darn cakes. But as for the Wii version? Let's just say I'm glad I got it as a gift.

Cute game, similar to Diner Dash which I love! Sometimes it gets frustrating with the remote so I have to pause and take a breath! But it's still entertaining and fun.
