Grade 4-6?Lively accounts of the accomplishments of two present-day stars?Robinson, an all-pro center for the San Antonio Spurs, and Ripkin, an all-star shortstop for the Baltimore Orioles. Melded with a fairly substantial amount of information about the athletes' upbringing and personal lives, they are above-average treatments. Quotes from individuals closely associated with the subjects are found throughout and are fully documented in endnotes. Plenty of white space, highlighted fact boxes, and numerous black-and-white photographs make these titles of interest to reluctant readers. Each one includes a listing of the player's career statistics and an address where readers could write to him. Similar, though less up-to-date, information without documentation is found in Stew Thornley's Cal Ripken, Jr. (1992) and Dawn Miller's David Robinson (1991, both Lerner). Give strong consideration to Macnow and Savage's books if sports biographies are in demand.?Tom S. Hurlburt, La Crosse Public Library, WI
