This review is from: Calabashes and Kings; an Introduction to Hawaii (Hardcover)
Written in 1945 this book gives a fascinating description of the islands at that time. It is really interesting to get a snapshot of the economic, social and political situations, especially as we now can see the evolution of those conditions (the dominance of the sugar cane industry, the fear of Japanese conquest, the question of statehood). It was also reader-friendly--easy and fun to read.
