Calamine: excellent,
By Seth H. Baliban (Prospect, KY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Calamine (Audio CD)
The calamine cd is amazing. It's obvious that they put a lot of effort into every song. Each song sounds different, each song sounds great. The singer has a beautiful voice, and being a drum player myself, i focused on the band's own drummer and I find him to be incredibly talented. The guitar and bass players sound as good as those in any band i've ever heard, and, though i thoroughly enjoyed every song, I particularly liked the guitar in the last song. And the bass player sounds great too...i love the sound of a bass, but this guy has some real talent. Like i said before, i like the last song a lot, it sounds a little faster and more upbeat than the others, but all the songs are definately awesome. I heard the theme for Sealab 2021, and i had to find out who did the song. I spent a while looking for the band and found calamine, downloaded some stuff (back when it was all legal and o.k. and everything) and i loved them and bought the cd. Calamine-rock on.

Great music out of NY.,
By Justin G Plummer (Abington, Pa United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Calamine (Audio CD)
I first heard of this band when they did the Sealab 2021 theme song, which I'm sure is the case for many outside of NY. After checking them out, I discovered they were much more than the 30 second theme song lead on. Their music is very developed, and I love Julie's voice and lyrics. Most the songs are very catchy, especially Trampoline, which has a marvelous chorus. I was going to give this album 4 stars because there isn't enough songs, but it is an EP, so I let it go. Pick this album up if you just want to listen to feel good music...and everyone does every once in a while.

this cd reminds me of some of the older Dakota motor company cds.... but this is somehow more studiedI love this cd for these occasions when I need changed up with some melo-dramato-cheerer-upper music. the opening "trampoline" song sounds like a lyrical breeze in the summer with your girlfriend having a picnic in the park, "astronaut" the departure of your loved one for his job on another place, "flicker" the reality of a girlfriend breaking up who really doesn't want to come back because "there's no christmas in june", "document" with that sweet guitar bend and julie up to that sweet desperate semi screaming voice. this isn't emo, not any folk, just sweet guitar arpeggios with the sweetest heart bending voice. I love this band, reminds me and of Velour 100 in a more sophisticated version.

Buy This Now.,

This sounds wonderful, besides the fact that there is only a few songs this c.d. is perfect. It sounds like Tsumami Bomb with out the evil pipe organ and slowed down a bit, sadder, but still catchy and upbeat.

Eisley's parents,
By
This review is from: Calamine (Audio CD)
I think Eisley sound like these guys. Not the other way around. These kids were out way before Eisley since this disc came out in `99 and Eisley didn't start playing shows until `01. It makes me laugh how Calamine did the Sealab theme song. Great stuff. Great disc.

CALAMINE,
This review is from: Calamine (Audio CD)
Easily the greatest EP of all time. Julie and Dan are the best vocal combo I've ever heard...it's a shame this is the only documented music they made together, because it scorches anything else made before or since.
Buy it! It must be experienced from start to finish to be truly appreciated.

Sounds a bit like Eisley,
By
This review is from: Calamine (Audio CD)
They sound a bit like Eisley, but are less musically sophisticated. If you like them, check out Eisley's "Room Noises" CD for a similar sound but a greater range of colors, harmonies, melodies and emotions.
In retrospect, I would give this CD 3 stars. Unfortunately Amazon doesn't allow ratings to be revised. |
