5.0 out of 5 stars Well made and accurate
This is a very nicely designed product, solidly built and accurate. difficult to use. I used to have an accu-tape, which I loved. It was so much easier than this thing.

This is a very nicely designed product, solidly built and accurate. I particularly appreciate that it has a setting to automatically add the length of the device to the measurement (so if you butt it against a wall the reading to the opposite wall is the actual distance between the walls - the back end has flattening ridges that help seat it at 90 degrees). The unit measures in meters with 3 decimal places of precision, in inches with fractions to 1/16th, or a combination of feet and inches (including fractions of inches). I found the controls to be completely intuitive and only referenced the instructions to confirm I had figured out everything the unit will do. My previous experience has been with acoustic devices, which use sonar and so are very easily fooled, accuracy questionable at best. By contrast, this measures precisely to the laser "dot", so even with something like a built-in bookshelf, you can measure to its back wall with the same confidence as using a tape measure. The device doesn't work inside of 4", but at that distance you should be using a physical measure anyway.

Some final comments: the unit has a modest ability to do simple calculations by retaining earlier readings, say to add up a series of distance readings. It can also use this capability to automatically calculate area and volume for rectilinear spaces, and with a clever twist, by measuring the base and hypotenuse of a right triangle, calculate the height. Any of these can be done by hand easily enough, and some might find that easier, but this unit can do the calculations for you. It also comes with a case that has a velcro adjustable belt loop.

Update 12/3/2011: It might be helpful to understand that the device uses a mini-camera slightly offset from its laser pointer to measure the "x-y" offset of the dot from the center of the camera image, which it uses to precisely calculate the distance to the object on which the dot appears (up to 100' away). It can only be fooled if it can't see the dot. The device can be incredibly useful for all sorts of distance measurement challenges; e.g., I just used mine to determine the height of a tree limb above the ground.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile Laser Measuring Tool, July 6, 2009
This review is from: Calculated Industries Prexiso X2 3350 Laser Distance Measuring Tool (Tools & Home Improvement)
The laser tool works very well. There are instances where the unit has to be reset and the measurement taken again, but this is not too frequent. Overall, it is a great help and works as expected. I would definitely recommend this product and it is a great value.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK, but could be better, July 31, 2011

I appreciated particularly the price of this tool, but find the lack of an audible clue that the measurement has been successful, a real bummer. One can often not see the screen and so a beep or something would be most helpful. Often I think I have the measurement, only to look at the screen and see that it didn't take. I have not found one that does this at this price point, but think that if CI could incorporate it, the product would be far better!

My dad had every tool you could imagine, but this was one thing that he did not. He uses it all the time! It is extremely accurate and very easy to use. I would definitely recommend it!

I need to measure the outside of houses as well as the inside of each room quickly, accurately and without a helper. This tool has allowed me to do that. It has been a great time saver and has allowed my work to be more accurate. The cost made this a great addition to my service business.

This is the best distance measuring device I've owned. I have two others, an old Brookstone sonice device, and an unspeakably bad "Sonic Laser Tape 50" by Strait-Line, which is not laser at all. Laser technology is better than sonic because you can reliably measure the spot of interest in a field of chairs, walls, and objects at varying distances. The sonic device may be detecting the wrong object, so you end up relying heavily on common sense as to whether you should accept or re-measure. But the laser instruments are more expensive. This one seems to be about as cheap as they get at this time, and I'm happy with it. It'd be nice if its range were greater than 100' (if I recall correctly).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product! Laser Measuring Tool by Calculated Industries, December 13, 2010

I read a number of other reviews of this product, and decided this would be a perfect gift for a realtor friend. The product arrived packaged well, and shipping was free from this seller.

I popped the batteries in to try it out (before wrapping as a gift), and was very happy with the look, feel, and most importantly, the accuracy of the measurments. I set it to read "feet and inches" (there is a metric setting, but who really knows how far 14.3 meters is?). This was accurate both on short distances, as well as being dead spot on when I measured by vaulted ceiling, which I know is 19 feet.

I'd recommend this to anyone looking at a laser measuring device for under $100.
