This handy calculator makes cooking easier!,

This review is from: Calculated Industries KitchenCalc 8305 PRO Master Chef Edition Recipe Conversion Calculator with Dual Digital Timer (Tools & Home Improvement)
WOW! This cool tool makes converting recipes, whether downsizing or cooking for a huge crew, a breeze - it does all the converting for you! The directions are pretty simple, though I keep my user's guide handy for a refresher from time to time. The protective keypad cover is a must in the kitchen, keeping it clean. I love the tilting display, the ease of use, and this cuts out the headache and pencil & paper converting to about a minute! It even has a "pinch" and "dash", ºC & ºF, metric and English measurement choices. All it takes is just a few entries and the calculator does all the hard work. It couldn't be any easier! My kids love it also! I don't use the duo timer very often, but am glad it's there.

I bought this item for my sister for Christmas because she found it quite laborious converting measurements. Standard, metric, liquid, dry, it can be daunting and scaling a recipe up or down can be confusing especially if fractions are involved. She was so thrilled with the calculator I may just have to get one for myself. Something to fiddle around with during TV commercials. Someone else complained about the plastic cover fitting too tightly and forcing keys down. My answer to that person is a resounding NO. I do NOT use any electronic device in the food preparation area. I do my conversions and put them on paper to refer to while actually cooking. I can't imagine doing it in the midst of actually cooking the food. Sort of like writing the recipe while you are cooking the dish. Maybe that makes sense to me only because I am a retired chef. I highly recommend this product based solely on my sister's opinions. She also found the dual timers convenient.

The KitchenCalc does conversions as promised and is very good at them. The timing functions also work.
But, the device came with a flexible plastic cover to allow it to be used in a cooking envronment. To put the cover on, you need to stretch it to the point that several keys at the edge are forced down. This keeps the calculator from working. How can a product be sold without even minimal functionality testing? Yes - it calculates. But, no, the KitchenCalc is not splashproof. Didn't anyone try using the calculator with the flexible plastic shield on? It's worth buying, but keep it clear of the cooking area. Rated 2 stars because the lack of a functional cover keeps it from being used in the food-preparation area.

I love this handy calculator! I'm not so good with math when it comes to converting recipes. Especially those recipes with uneven fractions. This does it all, and it's easy to use. I only wish I'd had one years ago. It is true the protective cover is a tight fit, and interferes with the keypad, but who cares? Just don't use the cover. This machine is so useful I certainly don't mind being a little careful with it. If you're really that worried about protecting your calculator, put it in a clear plastic bag. In fact, the instruction booklet comes in a clear bag that works just fine.

I often take recipes from very few servings to servings for 50 or more to handle feeding volunteers on Kingdom Hall construction projects. This calculator is a major help to figure out what to purchase and cook. I use it all the time! Easy to figure out, accurate and large enough to see easily. I wish it used photo cells for power, but the battery seems to last a long time.

much needed!,

To any pro chef this is a needed device in the kitchen. Just like your robo coupe, kitchen aid and favorite chefs knife. Instead of spending valuable time doing conversions from metric to standard, 30 portions to 9 portions for a special group, you can just enter the recipe and it converts everything for you. Some might not be inclined to do so because they think that these things should all be done in your head or on paper..... they are wrong. every second counts in the kitchen and if I can shave time off every day by using a calculator that tells me how many grams are in my 6.5 oz dish then I'm all for it.
Every cook home or pro should own on of these.

My boyfriend is a chef (a graduate of Johnson & Wales U). He was executive chef in Providence for a few years and now has started his own catering company.
He did not even know such a calculator existed. Nor did I. He wanted a calculator to take with him to meet clients at their homes and come up with some quick estimates. Now he can do so much more!

Wow!. I am not an expert at cooking; however, with this device I could sure seem like it. It does all the calculations that I need to do to scale up or down a recipe. No joke. I can take an oversized recipe for 8 servings and scale it down for one (me) and still have the same ingredient levels that make it taste so great. It is must have for people like me that don't know how to calculate things. In addition, a feature that I just love, it converts odd amounts into user-friendly amounts. No more wondering how much 5/8 cup measure is in tablespoons, just hit the convert button and find out it is 10. Super easy to understand -- super easy to use. I don't know how I could have gone this long without having the calculator. Great job guys.

This is a wonderful device for home use. We recently bought a Secura Turbo Oven and then bought some Turbo Oven cookbooks. The cookbooks are of British origin and thus are metric. This device device solves this problem. This unit converts metric to our USA measurement system. This unit will deal with gallons, quart, pints, cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, pounds, ounces (both dry and fluid) having made the conversion from liters, centiliters, milliliters, kilograms, grams so so forth. This unit also does temperature conversions of Fahrenheit and Celsius. You can do fractions with this for in between sizes. Has two timers built in. This unit will adjust the recipes for different serving sizes. By the way, I had originally purchased the 8300 by Calculated Industries. This is the palm sized version of this with a few less features. This was also an excellent calculator, but just too small to read the print on the buttons. I am very happy with this model 8305. |
