HORRIBLE BOOK DON"T BUY,

This review is from: 5 Steps to a 5 AP Calculus AB and BC, 2010-2011 Edition (5 Steps to a 5 on the Advanced Placement Examinations Series) (Paperback)
When I first got the book I had good hopes but they were immediately vanished after I started reading it. The explanations provided are limited to almost nothing at all. The entire book is basically 10 examples for each concept provided with no explanations but only shown work that sometimes does not make any sense because of the mistakes in it. Also constantly contradicts what it does and does not write anything about why they did that. I want my money back.

I recommend this book to my students to help them review for the AP Calc exam after they have already learned the topics well. This is not a good book to teach or learn topics from. However it is a great book to review with, especially for already well prepared students who are short on time.

This book is a useful supplement to other course material because of its clear and direct concept summaries and relevant practice problems.
Sections are organized well and most examples are very good preparations for the AP test. However, do not expect this book to prepare a student for the AP Calculus exam(s) all by itself-- there is a fair amount of material to learn and much more practice is necessary (especially for BC students). Students: Find what works for you, and make a commitment if you want to score well on the Exam. I used this book to help prepare for the 2011 AB exam and earned a 5. For me, the most important preparation was to identify my weaknesses using practices exams and then do related problems from many different sources.
