Exquisite, June 10, 2009
This review is from: Calcutta: Chitpur Road Neighborhoods (Hardcover)
There is an intensity, and deep fascination to be
found in these photographs. One finds a blend of the
sordid and elegant. I was reminded of the 18th century
etchings by Piranesi, of crumbling unrestored Rome, with
the human figures in the foreground or background, dominated
by monumental architecture in various states of decay.
This is not the "tourist" India, but something much
better.

Tuoching the soul, May 5, 2010
This review is from: Calcutta: Chitpur Road Neighborhoods (Hardcover)
This collection of photographs was initiated due to an architectural project with students. The photos show past glamour, present reality and constant change of one neighbourhood in Calcutta. The photos are technically excellent (although taken in very difficult to master environments), are full of details and provide a snap-shot insight into the life of this neighbourhood. Very touching indeed!
Very recommendable.
