What can I say? She's done it again - another classic!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Calder Pride A new Calder novel (Audio Cassette)
I absolutely loved this book. I reread the first four books (third time I have read them) and found them to be just as captivating this time as the first. Janet is my favorite author and I hope she will continue writing. but do it more frequently than she has these last few years. I hope Calder Pride is not the last in this series - I just hope it isn't years before we see it. Janet is the best western/ranch/romance writer ever and I hope she never retires. Another wonderful book!

I have enjoyed reading all of the Calder series & am anxiously awaiting to read more about Ty, Jessy and Quint Calder. Hopefully it will not be as long a time peorid till the next Calder book. I love their strong beliefs of the family and those they share it with. The Calder men & women with their strength, love and errors are most enjoyable to read about.

Calder Pride,
This review is from: Calder Pride (Hardcover)
Having read the other Calder stories, I felt this one lacked the character depth of the previous stories. It's obvious that another book is due out regarding Ty & Jessy Calder as neither character developed well in this part of the saga. I wonder when the next will be and if it will tie all the loose threads left by Calder Pride. ie. The results of those shot: Ty, Cully, and Rollie; The birth of Ty & Jessy's child; Sally & Chase's relationship; Emma's part in the kidnapping, etc.

I have been a fan of Janet Dailey's for years, I have all of the Calder series. I enjoyed reading the book, and can't wait for the next book to be written. I became aware of Janet Dailey and her books, when I younger and found out that we are from the same state. I have other books of hers, but, I really enjoyed the Calder series. Keep up the great work, Janet!

I throughly enjoyed this book. Cat loses her fiance in an automobile accident, she is devastated. She returns to college to gather her belongings and return home to the Calder ranch. She goes to a bar with girlfriends for farewell night out--and ends up in the arms of a handsome stranger. Nine months later she give birth to a son and is determined to raise him by herself as a Calder. Five years later this stranger comes to Blue Moon,Montana as the sheriff he realizes that this child is a result of their one night encounter and the melodrama progresess. Hope there is another chapter in the future.

The Makings of a Great Story...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Calder Pride (Mass Market Paperback)
...but only the makings. (Contains Spoilers) It had all the components: a tall dark and handsome (and part Native American, to boot) hero, an extended family with history, the heroine has their child out of wedlock--when he comes back: will he learn about their child, will they fall in love? But frankly the story didn't grab me. In fact, I was almost bored. I am always one for elucidating a story and the relationships. But the author could've took a page from her colleagues book by telling the heroine's situation in flashback: how she lost her first love, met the heroine, got with child, etc. Instead all these components were written in painstakingly boring detail. Also, the heroines' persistent whining over her dead fiance 5+ years later (who we never got to meet so couldn't share in the joy) was nauseating. Not one character grabbed my interest. The hero--the former department of treasury investigator (for God's sake)--was dull. And so was the child. And so was the father, the brother, the sister-in-law, and uncle. The only person who was interesting was Rollie, and that's because we never knew if underneath the badness exterior he had a heart. So in short, if you were thinking of putting this on your book list, don't. YOu could daydream and Janet Dailey can write a better story than this.

I WANTED THE BOOK TO CONTINUE.AS FAS AS THE CALDERS GO,MS.DAILEY HAS NOT LOST HER TOUCH.MEMORIES OF THE LIVES OF THE CALDERS CAME BACK AND AT SOME POINTS I WOULD SAY OH YEAH "THIS OR THAT HAPPENED".I LIKE THE WAY OLD CHARACTERS AND NEW ONES WERE BROUGHT TOGETHER LIKE SALLY FOR INSTANCE.I HOPE THERE IS A SEQUEL TO THIS BOOK AS WELL.

Cat lost her true love at the young age of 20. Feeling lonely she meets a stranger who reminds her of her lost love and ends up with a night of passion. Not knowing who each other is they go their seperate ways. Five years later, Cat has a beautiful son and no husband. Enter the new sheriff, who wants his son. This story has all the twists and turns as the previous Calder series books. It was nice revisiting the family that won our hearts.
