Good to see this album has made it to cd.
I used to listen to it in the 70's when it came out along with their other two releases "sky islands"(my favorite!) and another one which title I have forgotten.I enjoy the high level of virtuosity of these players,something you don't get to hear so often anymore.They are right up there with all the big names.
This one here is the more funky and jazzrocky one compared to "sky islands" which is definetly more brazilian influenced and somewhat deeper.
But they are all extremly good and unique and I just hope that the other ones will also become available on cd soon.
Also check out "Opa",another south american outfit from around that time centered around the singer Ruben Rada and the keyboard player Hugo Fatturoso."Magic Time"is the one you are looking for with guests Airto and Flora Purim.Very Good!

I am excited that someone appreciates quailty music and has put this album on CD. How about "Sky Islands"?

I agree with the first reviewer. This is quality music. I listened to this group all the time growing up and I need Sky Islands on CD. I have it in mint condition on an Album, but the quality is not the same. This group made alot of wonderful music and it should be appreciated.

Caldera, a so-called latin group, had deeply embedded brazilian and african musical roots that created beautiful melodies. Their introductory album was a very good start, but lacks the nuances of "Sky Island."

For diehard fans, get "Caldera" but, for the rest of us, please, please have someone, anyone, transfer "Sky Island" to compact disc. My turntable needle is now, basically, scratching my favorite Caldera album.

Wow, there's a Caldera album that I don't know about or own? Wish there were some MP3 Samples for THAT price. The other two LP's were Time & Chance and Dreamer; I have all three in as mint condition as 30+ years will allow. Time & Chance got a little over-produced and there were elements that I can only describe as "disco", but they got back to the style that won me with Dreamer with songs like To Capture The Moon and Dreamchild. If this one is ANYthing like Sky Islands (which featured two cuts with a very young Dianne Reeves), I want one of the two used. Years later, I saw Stan Kenton performing on PBS with the keyboardist, Eduardo del Barrio, and it was just fabulous. Unfortunately, I've never found anything by him solo. But Jorge Strunz, the guitarist, is now one-half of Strunz & Farah; however, the band is entirely acoustic. But there were acoustic pieces on the Caldera albums which hinted at what lay ahead for him. Again, if this recording is still available and you like Latin-jazz-fusion, this is IT.

..or is it funk with jazz sensibilities? whatever it is, caldera impress me anew each time i put on the cd. complex, progressiive, borderline epic - this is what 70s rock/funk/soul/jazz fusion was all about! some serious guitar work in here as well. fans of dimeola or mclaughlin wouldn't be disappointed. but underlying the changing progressive grooves and jazz flavors is that fat funky bass beat emerging and re-emerging out of caldera's ever changing rhythms. at times, in their spacier moments, you'd almost think lonnie liston smith was in there. great stuff.

between millions of cd, why caldera is not remastered or copied with authorizations?

time and change, sky islands, dreamer.....where are these cds?
could someone do anything to solve this problem?
i hope so, because my lps have been stealed!

I love Caldera since my college days.... true, how come SKY ISLANDS is not included????
