What makes it worth the money is, you can modify it to make a starter rest for serious precision shooting.

Easy to make fine adjustments and it is heavy duty.

This rest is kind of an oddity, in a way. It's probably not precise enough for a serious benchrest competitor, but it's more than most shooters would need for casual, infrequent use. That makes it just about perfect for me. I shoot regularly in club-level competition, off the bench, at ranges from 100-300 yards. I wanted a solid, heavy windage rest that wouldn't break the budget, and the Caldwell Rock BR suits my needs to a "t". I know of nothing better for less than two or three times the price. Once again, Caldwell has hit the ball out of the park.

I bought the BR Rock rest after watching several video reviews of the prior model (2009 version). The new model (2010 version) has a redesigned cradle and windage adjusting screw and seems to be a big downgrade from the prior model. The new model simply uses a screw to move the cradle left or right. The problem is that after locking the cradle down, there is a lot of side to side movement in the cradle. I called Caldwell tech support and they had me check the cradle attached screw to see if it was loose, it was not, and I was told to send it back. Amazon quickly (next day air) sent me a replacement, but I have the same issue with the replacement.

The 2009 version has a spring loaded pin that moves between two slides and seems to be a more stable and accurate cradle adjustment process. Visually looking at the two models, it seems the mfg. may have tried lower the mfg. cost by going to a simpler cradle design.

I may end up returning the rest and look for a used on 2009 version on ebay.

After shopping for a while, I bought this shooting rest. I am very happy with it.

it arrived at my door 4 days after i placed the order. There is a sticker on the front of the box "new and improved windage and elevation." There is zero slop in the windage. There is a small amount of slop when the elevation is not locked. Its just a little twisting that doesn't affect point of aim. It is very solid and a little heavy but not cumbersome. It has a bubble level and came with 2 bags. One filled that fits normal rifles and one unfilled 3 lobe bag for wide forearm benchrest rifles.

Overall I am extremely satisfied and would recomend this product to any shooter that doesn't want to spend $400 to $1000 on a rest. I am also pleased with Amazon, as always.

searching the internet reviews for this product showed many dissatisfied customers, things like bad work and materials.I found mine to be very well made.it works well and smoothly, the amount of travel exceeds my needs.no, its not a $2000 scientific lab machine. but it is as good or better then they claim.my only complaint is no shooting how to. they do have tolerance setting instructions, in order to use this machine, it is imperative that you are willing and able to READ,understand and FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS or the machine will be a nightmare to you. my problem is is not the machine. I am getting slightly larger groups with vertical stringing then i do with a good bi-pod. with no instructions on how to shoot with one I'm scratching my bald head. BUY IT.Amazon did outstanding packing, shipping, and especially the cost savings for me.Good shooting,Dan.

I'm posting this for those, like me, that aren't sure what is and isn't furnished with the rest. When I ordered I was worried that this newer version didn't have a level and didn't come with the "thicker" universal pad, since the picture leaves something to be desired and there is not a lot detail in the description. The rest is in fact equiped with a level. The black, pictured but unfilled, pad and a thicker (not pictured or discribed) black and green universal pad are included. It's definitely a nice piece of equipment at a very good price.

Purchased this a few weeks ago, it works great. I had noticed some reviews that said it was weak in some areas. I have not found this to be true. It arrived in perfect condition and went together in a snap. Just what I needed for the range for new scope setups.

If you can't afford a Hart, Farley or other competition rest, this is the next best thing. Do be prepared to modify it, especially for competition, or simply to "fix" the cheap bags you get with it. The thin sandbag shown on the rest is insufficient for a BR rifle.

Without a good front rest bag there is no point in buying this rest. If you just want something to rest the rifle on other than real BR shooting, get one of the cheaper rests.
Other modifications may apply as well depending on how far you want to go.

What makes it worth the money is, you can modify it to make a starter rest for serious precision shooting.
