Ok but not good enough for what i wanted,

This review is from: Caldwell 7-Rest Full Length Rifle Rest (Sports)
I purchased the Caldwell 7 rifle rest earlier this year from Amazon and have had several chances to use it. It would be good for someone looking for something economical for sighting in a new scope or for teaching someone to shoot a rifle for the first time. Unfortunately the verticle adjustments are not fine enough for my needs as I am testing different loads of ammunition for accuracy. I was shooting a heavy rifle and the recoil was enough to change the point of aim each time it was fired. It is lightweight and handy but for someone that absolutely needs to maintain the exact point of aim between shots this will not work. So I guess if I was just looking for a cheap simple rifle rest I would give it 4 stars. If the elevation adjustment was sturdier and didnt wobble from side to side as you make adjustments I would give it 5 stars.

This review is from: Caldwell 7-Rest Full Length Rifle Rest (Sports)
After using this "Full length" model rifle rest, I found that the rest worked fine for "Full length" riflestocks. It was very lightweight and easy to carry. It did not reduce a rifle's felt-recoil, but it was not intended to do that. (Caldwell has other models for that purpose). However, If you intend to shoot short-length carbines, the padded forearm-holding piece of the rest may not support the foreward stock of the carbine, due to the distance between the front and rear stock-supports. With my lever action carbine, the rear stock area was fully supported at the right height, but the front support was resting under the barrel/magazine area when the gun was leveled. This was not conducive to good accuracy, as pressure was applied directly upward on the barrel while aiming. However, this condition was easily cured. I simply drilled a new hole for the rear stock support, (through the hollow metal bar), about seven inches foreward of the original support-hole. This allowed me to move the stock support inorder to use either hole, depending on the overall length of a particular gunstock. This hole should have been factory made, as it increased the usefulness of the rest. However, I am well pleased with this product.
