Enter the Caldwell E-Max low-profile electronic muffs, which provide superior hearing protection for shotgun and action shooters. The muffs boast two microphones that amplify sounds below 85 decibels, helping you hear normal communication, range commands, and environmental sounds. Above 85 decibels, however, the microphones shut off for a split second to protect the shooter's hearing. Add in a volume control--which allows you to amplify environmental sounds from 0 to 20 decibels--and you have complete control over your audio environment while shooting. The muffs also include a fully padded adjustable headband and cushioned ear cups to provide comfort during extended use.

Great headphones. Bought them for Dad for Christmas, tried them out immediately. Wearing the headphones, you can hear whispering and talking, but then clap your hands - you can't hear it at all! Only filters out super-loud frequencies, and it does a darn good job at it! Great for yard work or firing range use. I highly, highly recommend this for low-cost hearing protection. Beats earplugs any day of the week.

These work as advertised. Conversation and other background noise are easy to hear when turned on, then silence in loud environments. They will be great on the shooting range. So far, have just used them in the shop working on projects.
Construction quality matches the entry level price, which is fine for most activities requiring hearing protection. Perfect for the range or shop, not for combat. I would give 5 stars, but wanted a set that uses AA batteries. These need AAA, so product description is a little off.

This is my first set of electronic ear muffs. These e-muffs are pretty hard to find in my area. Wal-Mart didn't have any so I drove to Dick's Sporting Goods and they had only this brand and Field & Stream. Took my muffs to the range today and there was a delay when I was at least 3 feet away from everyone else shooting. But all the loud noises were instantly muffled when I started shooting. Will continue to shoot with these e-muffs but still want to find some Peltor e-muffs to try out
