5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, well-designed, easily adjusted
I first saw this item at the range. Our shooting neighbors both had one of these for their long-distance (400 yd) iron-sight shooting. I was impressed with how well the rest functioned. Highly recommended for sighting-in and bench-rest target shooting. Would buy again.

5.0 out of 5 stars They sure named it right, July 14, 2011

A great name for a great product. It's steady as a rock, and easy to use. It was pictured as having a bubble level, but mine didn't have any, not that I cared. With my AR and high capacity mag, I found it better to turn the rest 180 degrees, so as to allow more clearance for the AR's mag. I read some other reviews that complained about having to assemble the rock. I had it together in a few minutes without looking at the instructions. That made me wonder about those who complained about assembly. I don't think I'd want them to have a gun in their hands, if they were confused by something so simple.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Rock is solid and upon it you can build decent groups., June 6, 2010

Solid product, does what you'd expect. Easily put together. Two points worth mentioning are; the tightening handle used for locking the elevation screw is long and obtrusive - I can't figure why that size of a grip is needed. I replaced it which a thumb screw that protrudes roughly 1 & 1/2 inch so that it doesn't run the risk of hitting your gun. Secondly, if you are "A" retentive about finish, forget that. This had chips in the paint down to the metal in several places - poor packaging, careless, handling, sloppy manufacturing? Who knows.

This is a solid rest for the money. It adjustable to most shooting situations. It is heavy enough to be solid when patterning Turkey loads yet not too heavy or bulky when transporting to and from the range. It would be nice if the instructions for use were a little more clear. I figured out how to get precise adjustments after using it the first time but if you aren't mechanically inclined you may have trouble getting enough height adjustment in certain situations.

Check the parts as you remove them from the box. One leveling foot was bent and not useable. Called the service dept, and got a replacement. The adjustment for up and down does not move smoothly, hope with use it will get better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality bench rest, January 1, 2012
This review is from: Caldwell The Rock Deluxe Front Rifle Rest (Sports)
I was pleased to receive one of these bench rests for Christmas. The bench rest was easy to assemble and had nice instructions on how to do so, even though it was pretty self explanatory.
I used the rest at the range today and found it to be easy to adjust and it seems to stay on Target pretty well. Although the unit does weigh a fair amount you may still want some small sand bags to help keep it from jumping when shooting higher calibers. The only real complaint I had was when I went to lower the rest i had to tap the top lightly to get the screw to drop onto the adjustment nut. I'm sure this will wear in soon and is just because its new, so its not really a problem.
I would recommend this rest to anyone looking for a quality bench rest but doesn't want to spend a lot on a fancy top competition model.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Rest, November 12, 2011

This review is from: Caldwell The Rock Deluxe Front Rifle Rest (Sports)
I purchased it along w/the Deluxe Universal Rear bag last year and just got around to using it. It's a great combination, holds my lightweight sporter rifles rock steady. I've used the Caldwell lead sled before but didn't care for it. I can shoot as accurately w/this setup as I could w/the sled and I much prefer the feel of the rest/bag combination. I deducted a star b/c when you turn the adjustment ring to lower the rest it does not go down, you have to push it down...seems the tolerances are tight or maybe some lubrication is in order. Hopefully, the parts just need to settle in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caldwell Front Rifle Rest, October 31, 2011

This review is from: Caldwell The Rock Deluxe Front Rifle Rest (Sports)
This is the first Caldwell product I have used and it is perfect for me. It is very well built, solid and does not move when firing a heavy caliber rifle from a bench. The adjustment wheel is easy to use. The Rest instructions were easy to read and follow in assembling the Rest. I have looked at several "Rests" and the Caldwell The Rock Deluxe Front Rifle Rest was the best for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great rest, October 10, 2011
This review is from: Caldwell The Rock Deluxe Front Rifle Rest (Sports)
I was torn between this, and the deluxe model. I'm glad that I saved the money to go with this one. It has very small adjustments, and is rock solid. You don't have a windage adjustment, but I can definitely live with that. Great product.
