Giardino means garden in Italian, and leafy sprays of flowers allow this dinnerware pattern to aptly live up to its name. A sunny yellow center on each bowl and plate, surrounded by flowers of pink and blue, lends a cheerful air. Pink and green stripes circle the yellow center, while yellow and blue stripes accent the rim. This 16-piece dinnerware set, service for four, consists of four of each of the following: 11-1/4-inch dinner plate, 8-inch salad plate, 8-1/2-inch soup or pasta bowl, and a 14-ounce mug. The mug is glazed white on the inside. Large and flat with just a slightly upturned rim, the dinner plate doubles as a serving platter for luncheon sandwiches or a small cake.

Made in Italy of chip-resistant ceramic, each Caleca dinnerware piece is hand-painted by skilled artisans with glazes that meet US standards by being free of lead and cadmium. Love the pattern on the set. Set arrived in perfect condition. Cereal bowls are on the flat side and take a little bit to get use to. Mugs are on the large side. When I put a mug in the microwave, I notice that the handle is very hot upon removel. I use a different type of mug in the microwave. All in all I love the set.

I am very happy with this gorgeous set of authentic Italian dinnerware. The design is hand-painted so that one can see the flowing brush strokes. The yellow center surrounded by flowers is like the sun in a garden, giving a cheerful feeling, and making food look appetizing. My only suggestion is that the shade of yellow is a cooler and lighter, more lemon yellow than the picture on the website. Personally I prefer the cool yellow on the dinnerware I received, as it gives a spring morning effect. But it could be a problem for anyone looking to match a warmer yellow.

Caleca Giardino is the answer to my search for dinnerware with real Italian soul.

Great set, very pretty, and high quality. Bowls are a bit shallow at first glance, but once you get over how shallow they look you realize that they are just as functional as the smaller but deeper styles.

I'm very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this set to anyone.
