5.0 out of 5 stars One of the last great true Scottish bands, June 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Caledonias Hardy Sons (Audio CD)
I had the pleasure to see Silly Wizard in concert many years ago, and I still get choked to hear their music. If you've never heard their music, then you've never truly heard the music of my country. The music of SW is deeply rooted in tradition, though a fair bit of it is new music written by the band. It's great music by great musicians. You'd have to come to Scotland to here anything like it. So if you can't come right now give it a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars SW rules, October 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Caledonias Hardy Sons (Audio CD)
The music of Silly Wizard is like nothing you've heard before, even though it springs from a long tradition of Scottish country music. From songs about the English invasion of their land, to songs about love and friendship, Silly Wizard tells the story of Scotland one beautiful song at a time. It also contains some of the best jigs you will ever hear. With a sprinkling of modern instruments to keep the music from getting stale and with Andy Stewarts incredible voice, Silly Wizard has all the ingredients to make great music.

5.0 out of 5 stars There must be a SW revival going on, January 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Caledonias Hardy Sons (Audio CD)
I used to listen to this band years back but I lost my whole music collection in a fire and I'm still trying to find stuff. All of a sudden I start seeing SW CDs all over the place and friends are telling me "you've got to have this band!" What happened? Where they on TV or something? Anyway I just re-purchased their whole catalouge and picked up some new stuff Andy Steward did since I lost my stuff. I loved their music and I can't wait to hear it again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly Wizard at their usual best, October 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Caledonias Hardy Sons (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of Silly Wizard for a long time now. This CD shows them at their usual best. If you haven't heard Celtic music before listen to it a few times before passing judgement. The voice of Andy M. Stewart is captivating. Great CD

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest Scottish fold bands ever, January 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Caledonias Hardy Sons (Audio CD)
What an incredible band! Silly Wizard is band that plays traditional Scottish (and some Irish) music, along with new music in the traditional style. They do include some modern instruments, but they never detract from the soul of the music. This CD contains some very traditional Scottish music, and even after listening to the CD dozens of times there are Scottish words I can't understand! However that just adds to the experience. I suggest listening to the samples for "Isla Water", "Glasgow Peggy", and "TWA Brithers". My personal favorite is "Ferryland Sealer", but Amazon doesn't offer a sample.

I have lent my SW cds around for years now and it never fails that people have to hear more. Every CD they made is a gem, with a style of music you will rarely hear in the U.S. (or anywhere outside of Scottland). If you enjoy Celtic music, then you will fall in love with SW. Buy any one of their CDs and before you know it you will buy all of them. Sadly the band broke up a few years back but the lead singer Andy Stewart has done some solo work. I suggest "Fire In The Glen" or "At It Again."

5.0 out of 5 stars Try listening to Glasgow Peggy, June 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Caledonias Hardy Sons (Audio CD)
Glasgow Peggy is just a great song, and reason enough to buy the CD so I suggest giving it a try. Ferryland Sealer is another favorite but Amazon doesn't have a sample. This is a CD you just have to have if you love Scottish folk music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly Wizard "Caledonia's Hardy Sons", August 17, 2009
This review is from: Caledonias Hardy Sons (Audio CD)
Prompt Delivery, faster than expected. Great band, great music. Has the song "Fear a' bhàta" which is beautiful and hard to find a good recording of. Well, it's right here and Andy M. Stewart's vocals on it and all these songs are amazing.
