Can export to PDF !,
By JLR "eqntott" (CA) - See all my reviews

I've happily used several versions of Calendar Creator at home. I choose a different category/color for displaying each family member's appointments, so it is easy to see who is busy at a glance. The repeating events algorithm is very powerful.
I upgraded from 6 to 7 when Broderbund added the capability to drag & drop events from one cell to another. Contrary to another reviewer, I CAN move events using the drag and drop method or by using the Cut/Copy/Paste capabilities. In 2004 we switched from 7 to 10 as soon as we found out that Deluxe 10 can export to PDF. This is fabulous! I still print out a multi-week calendar for our refrigerator, but now I ALSO export it to a PDF file and then email it to my spouse at work, so he remembers what's up. We installed version Deluxe 10 on a Windows XP machine with no trouble. Watch out if you want to integrate this with your Palm Pilot. I wanted to sync the Calendar Creator calendar data with my Palm, but keep the Palm address book. This is not possible. For versions 6,7,8,9, and still for 10 you have to use BOTH the Calendar Creator calendar and address book or NEITHER. Therefore I don't put calendar data onto my Palm. It wouldn't mesh perfectly anyway because the Palm calendar a) has a less sophisticated repeat algorithm and b) doesn't use categories.

Broderbund Ignores Customers,

The Calendar Creator product is useless for all but the very lucky. The software appears to be impossible to install without customer support and there IS NO customer support. It has proven to be impossible getting any help at all from Broderbund either on-line or by phone. We have been trying for two months and have spent almost as much in long distance charges (all of it on hold) as we spent on the product. Steer Clear!

I have used several versions of this product (hoping it would get better) and you can definitely lose access to your data. Sometimes just one event, sometimes you can't even run the software without re-installing. It can make nice-looking calendars, but I wouldn't use it to store data (such as your schedule) that you might need later. It has some other quirks such as creating giant (> 1 megabyte) PDF's (exporting to JPEG makes a smaller file!) etc, but the potential for data loss is the worst aspect. Oh, and lots of irritating bugs too, for example entering a new event after 11pm (clock time) will usually be frustrating because it will automatically bridge to the next day, which you will have to undo manually. Same problem if you have an event from, say, 1pm - 10pm and you want to change it to 3pm - 10pm. You had best first change 10pm to 8pm, then change 1pm to 3pm (which will automatically change 8pm to 10pm), otherwise it will bridge it to the next day, turn it into a banner, etc and backing out will take longer than the method described above. Oh, and when you create an event, and then choose to have it on several days, it will warn you with a popup you have to dismiss as you add each new day, so you learn to first add the last day (you get warned about that), then add the in-between days. But sometimes it will silently delete the original day, for no discernible reason (you'll notice this when you are done editing, the event has mysteriously disappeared from that day). Sometimes, it will decide that the events don't fit in the box, so it will make all the text really small, but you can fix this by manually adding a blank event, and suddenly it all fits! I could go on for hours...
