4.0 out of 5 stars Can export to PDF !
I've happily used several versions of Calendar Creator at home. I choose a different category/color for displaying each family member's appointments, so it is easy to see who is busy at a glance. The repeating events algorithm is very powerful.

The Calendar Creator product is useless for all but the very lucky. The software appears to be impossible to install without customer support and there IS NO customer support. 4.0 out of 5 stars Can export to PDF !, December 13, 2004
This review is from: Calendar Creator Deluxe 10 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I've happily used several versions of Calendar Creator at home. I choose a different category/color for displaying each family member's appointments, so it is easy to see who is busy at a glance. The repeating events algorithm is very powerful.

I upgraded from 6 to 7 when Broderbund added the capability to drag & drop events from one cell to another. Contrary to another reviewer, I CAN move events using the drag and drop method or by using the Cut/Copy/Paste capabilities.

In 2004 we switched from 7 to 10 as soon as we found out that Deluxe 10 can export to PDF. This is fabulous! I still print out a multi-week calendar for our refrigerator, but now I ALSO export it to a PDF file and then email it to my spouse at work, so he remembers what's up. We installed version Deluxe 10 on a Windows XP machine with no trouble.

Watch out if you want to integrate this with your Palm Pilot. I wanted to sync the Calendar Creator calendar data with my Palm, but keep the Palm address book. This is not possible. For versions 6,7,8,9, and still for 10 you have to use BOTH the Calendar Creator calendar and address book or NEITHER. Therefore I don't put calendar data onto my Palm. It wouldn't mesh perfectly anyway because the Palm calendar a) has a less sophisticated repeat algorithm and b) doesn't use categories.

I have used several versions of this product (hoping it would get better) and you can definitely lose access to your data. Sometimes just one event, sometimes you can't even run the software without re-installing. It can make nice-looking calendars, but I wouldn't use it to store data (such as your schedule) that you might need later. It has some other quirks such as creating giant (> 1 megabyte) PDF's (exporting to JPEG makes a smaller file!) etc, but the potential for data loss is the worst aspect. Oh, and lots of irritating bugs too, for example entering a new event after 11pm (clock time) will usually be frustrating because it will automatically bridge to the next day, which you will have to undo manually. Same problem if you have an event from, say, 1pm - 10pm and you want to change it to 3pm - 10pm. You had best first change 10pm to 8pm, then change 1pm to 3pm (which will automatically change 8pm to 10pm), otherwise it will bridge it to the next day, turn it into a banner, etc and backing out will take longer than the method described above. Oh, and when you create an event, and then choose to have it on several days, it will warn you with a popup you have to dismiss as you add each new day, so you learn to first add the last day (you get warned about that), then add the in-between days. But sometimes it will silently delete the original day, for no discernible reason (you'll notice this when you are done editing, the event has mysteriously disappeared from that day). Sometimes, it will decide that the events don't fit in the box, so it will make all the text really small, but you can fix this by manually adding a blank event, and suddenly it all fits! I could go on for hours...

I read the reviews on 'Calendar Creator 10 Deluxe' and was amazed at all the negative comments. But for the price it sold for I figured I'd try it anyway. Results: It's great !! I had no problems whatsoever in entering my bill payments, special occasions, etc., for the year. I had 83 separate events to enter, almost all of which were weekly or monthly repeat occurances. It took me only 1 1/2 hours and they will repeat for the next 40 years! It printed all out cleanly, each month on one page. And I never had to read any instructions or go to a 'Help' screen. I don't know what is wrong with those who said the program is no good. I highly recommend this product. One tip: It is easiest if you use the 'Event List' rather than the calendar page itself to enter the events.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hate it, Hate it, HATE IT!!!, May 18, 2004
By A Customer

This is by far the worst calendar program EVER! I absolutely abhor it. It is not at all user friendly. It randomly prints boxes where you didn't create them. The functionality to move calendar entries from one month to another doesn't exist...you have delete the entry and completely recreate. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with it because my boss likes the way it looks...too bad he doesn't have to struggle with it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating, December 19, 2003
This review is from: Calendar Creator Deluxe 10 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
In order to use this software it seems one would need to have a degree in graphic information technology and I'm not sure even that person would be able to use it. The company provides no support for persons having difficulty using the program and the "Help Center" is not structured in a useful manner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still the Best Calendar Creator, December 14, 2004
By
This review is from: Calendar Creator Deluxe 10 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I've read reviews where someone had an installation problem and a few more where they had trouble running the program.

There is absolutely nothing hard about opening your CD or DVD drive, dropping in the CD and following the instructions on which installation you want to proceed with. It's child proof!

And once the program is loaded on your harddrive, it's absolutely one of the best program's developed for the PC.

The only thing still missing from the earliest version of Calendar Creator that I miss is the individual pics of the moon-phases with the discriptsion underneath. I wonder why they haven't brought that back, since most calendars you see have the pics of the moon-phases.

I've had no problems in installing or using this version. I had an earlier version and it is much the same with additional attributes such as being able to save as an Adobe Acrobat File. I would recommend it to any future buyers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Program and Worse Support, June 18, 2005
This review is from: Calendar Creator Deluxe 10 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
This program is very weak and the support is horrible. I needed assistance to create one month on 2 pages for a wall calendar and it is not possible - however - they would never tell me this. They said it could do this and I bought it and the program can not do what they said it could. I could get NOONE to answer my question. The on line support is worthless as is their help tutorial.
