Perhaps the Greatest CD I Own,
By Kevin Phillips (Arlington, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Calendar Days (Audio CD)
I got this CD in August of 2003, and I don't think I took it out of my car CD player untill about October. The songs on this CD are so increadibly emotional and dramatic that I could listen to this CD, and this CD only, for months and months without ever getting borred. And the fact that he plays all the instruments by himself, and hes so young, makes it all the better. When I discovered The Rocket Summer, I immediately got my friends to buy the CD as well, and all of them are now as great of fans as I am. BUY IT!

an original band...i mean man,
By cody (Dallas, TX USA) - See all my reviews

I just got a chance to see The Rocket Summer live two nights ago and the experience was new, exciting, and an enjoyable escape from the punk/alternative doldrums. The lyrics are catchy and uplifting while the rhythms are simple but have good variety and style. However, I will always love listening to this cd and seeing the live shows mostly because Bryce Avary is the most talented and happy musician I've ever seen. Buy it as soon as you can.

Feel-Good album of the century!,
By
This review is from: Calendar Days (Audio CD)
I can't believe that I haven't reviewed this album sooner, but I must save the viewers from the bad reviews!!!
This albums is fun, catchy, and happy music in a punk world where depressing and upsetting emo reigns supreme. Avery has the capabilities, the voice, and the style of a typical emo band, but he delivers something that is truly needed these days. His songs, are simple, up-beat, and fun, and they make you feel good. He exposes love in its infancy for what it truly is, and what it truly should be. Before the heartbreak and complacency, love is fun, crushes are real, and life is good. This is what "Calendar Days" is all about. For those who would rather listen to a singer who whines about his love life, hoping fans will commiserate (I would know, I'm guilty of it too) they may find The Rocket Summer immature and unbearable. But for those who are not so far removed from the happier moments of their life, where things seem to pick up and come together, then this album is for you!

w00t!,
By Fizz (Elgin, Illinois) - See all my reviews

I first discovered TRS when I was surfing through Kazaa, I was trying to find more music from The Juliana Theory and typed in 'emo'... and I noticed a song called 'TV Family.' Ever since, I've been absolutely in love with The Rocket Summer(you should see my Livejournal layout!). I'm the first one in the Elgin, Illinois area to listen to them but I've been spreading it like wildfire. I was extremely impressed that he wrote and performed every bit of music on this cd. I mean wow. Some of the songs he's written he wrote at the age of 14. I'm 15 and a lot of my songs are nowhere NEAR as good. Also, I recommend for all of you to get a hold of Bryce's other songs, such as 'Teenage Love Rock'(my all-time favorite), 'My Typical Angel', 'December Days', and 'Thats What She Said', among others. As excellent as any song on this cd.

Amazing CD...,
By David Mallari (TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Calendar Days (Audio CD)
...considering Bryce plays EVERY instrument on EVERY song! He has more talent than I could ever dream of having. The song lyrics are so earnest, his voice has a distinct appeal to it, and the melodies are catchy and will get stuck in your head, in a good way. I sometimes find myself singing to myself, "Now the sky's such a sweet blue..."The Rocket Summer is one talent that should not be missed. If you ever get a chance, see him live as well--he's a fun guy, and he's awesome live. I often get tired of listening to CDs when I first get them, listening to them a lot and then making myself sick of them. I've had this album since it came out, and it's still a regular in my CD player. One of my top 5 albums at the moment. I'm glad I got this CD...it's flat out just feel-good music, great for your good days and bad.

Great Debut Album from Great Musician,
By Goshou (Michigan) - See all my reviews

I heard of The Rocket Summer first from Buzz-Oven, which is a Dallas-based radio station that does a whole bunch of stuff with local, youth rock bands. The Rocket Summer was their "featured artist" on one of their annual CD's, and one came into my possession. At first, I didn't particularly care for it, but it started to grow on me, and, in fact, Avary has some really good stuff and an amazing talent, considering he wrote all the songs, played all the instruments, and sang all the songs. Now, that's some talent.
The album shows solid footing in the indie-pop genre, and with Avary's up beat, bubbly voice with lyrics and tunes to match, it's a great buy for anyone who enjoys the genre. A lot of his songs show a mature songwriter and musician, and, since it's his first album, that's really promising. My complaint is mainly that... sometimes it's just too much. Sometimes the lyrics are just a little affected, and Avary's charming voice singing "ba ba ba ba," it's just too cutsie for me. That's not to say I wouldn't buy the album, it's a good buy and a solid album. I'm very much looking forward to his second CD, as that one promises to be so much more than the first, which was already great.

Is It Possible To Be Better?,
By Apollo (Westminster, CO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Calendar Days (Audio CD)
The Rocket Summer is one of the bands that I still cannot beleive even exist. TRS is so amazing in every aspect of every song and seem to be almost not real they are so perfect. I fell in love with this cd the first time I listened to it with the cd starting out with a song that made me speechless. I am anticipating the second cd with great excitement and am still in awe from the majesty of that of, THE ROCKET SUMMER.

What We Like We Make,

whoa.. This CD has to be one of my favorites of this year. The song, "Skies So Blue", was recommended to me by a friend and I just loved it. So after hearing the rest of the songs, I realized that it wasn't just one song that was good. It was the whole CD. I must say that I wish more people had heard of it and I've been doing my best to spread the word about The Rocket Summer. Not enough good things can be said about this album. Request the songs at your local radio stations. Request the video on MTV. Beg your parents to buy you the CD and if you're old enough, go out and get the CD yourself. Well, worth the price of 15 dollars in the age of free downloads.

Just awesome,
This review is from: Calendar Days (Audio CD)
All the songs on this cd are catchy. The fact that he wrote, produced, and played all the instrument and sang just blows you away. I remember hearing him for the first time, it convinced me to buy the cd just two days after hearing him. Every song easy to learn and you'll find yourself singing along after listening to the cd a couple of times; almost every song has the potential to be a single. My personal favorites are "cross my heart", "movie stars and super models", "saturday", and "mean thoughts and cheap shots".
