"January shivers / February shines / March blows off the winter ice / April makes / the mornings nice . . ." First published in 1959 in the collection Wide Awake and Other Poems, this simple poem by the late Livingston gets its own picture book here with a lively double-page spread for each month of the year. The bright, clear, mixed-media artwork--ink, acrylic, gouache, and collage--extends the words with images of kite-flying, fireworks in the sky, a preschooler starting school in September, Halloween costumes, making angels in the snow. More than the words alone, the pictures will help adults talk about the concept of the calendar with preschoolers, who will have fun acting out the words as they enjoy the seasonal changes. About the Author

Myra Cohn Livingston,was a celebrated poet and a recipient of the Excellence in Poetry Award from the National Council of Teachers of English, and the Kerlan Award from the University of Minnesota, as well is a two-time winner of the Texas Institute of Letters Award.

Will Hillenbrand has illustrated many books, including "Asleep in the Stable", which he wrote, and "What a Treasure!"

Will Hillenbrand has illustrated many beloved picture books, including "Kiss the Cow by Phyllis Root"; "Smash! Mash! Crash! There Goes the Trash!" by Barbara Odanka; and "What a Treasure!" by Jane Hillenbrand. He also wrote and illustrated another Christmas story, "Asleep in the Stable". Will enjoys visiting classrooms to talk about the creative process involved in making a picture book. He lives with his wife, Jane, and their son, Ian, in Terrace Park, Ohio.

Gorgeous artwork accompanies this sparse, gentle poem about the passing of the seasons and months. A very classy presentation, and a rich visual feast. (ReadThatAgain)
