A bit uneven, but good.,

Well, this is pretty much stripped-down acoustic Tempest, still a good thing if you like Lief Sorbye's voice. A couple of the songs didn't do much for me. I expected to like "Jeg Lagde Meg Sa Silde" more than I did, and "Bold John Barleycorn" isn't quite up to the standard that other recordings of the tune have set. On the other hand, "Beeswing" is very poignant, and "What Put The Blood" - a wholly vocal track - is powerful. Recommended.

Notes on Celtic moods,

The CD Caliban is a collection of traditional tunes and original but traditional sounding offerings from two of the members of the band Tempest. Having seen these guys several times in San Francisco and other places I can say that the album is a true representation of their live sound. There is nothing like listening to the live performance of music that grew from thousands of years of cultural swirling, but this album is a close substitute. Reread Jung, choose your favorite Celtic archetype and travel with this CD.
