Calico Critters: Baby Playhouse Windmill

I purchased this for my daughter for her 5th birthday. She has been enjoying Calico Critters since she was two and a half years old. As children grow and interests change, toys often fall by the wayside. I have found that the Calico Critters have great lasting power in our home that make them worth the hefty price tag. Yes it is plastic and yes they are rather pricey, but these playsets and critters have much longevity for creative play. As my daughter gets older, her play schemes get more complex and sophisticated making them worth the investment.

The Baby Playhouse Windmill is particularly cute with the turnable windmill and makes the inside mobile spin. It's nice to combine it with some of our other Calico Critter collections. The attention to detail is particularly enchanting to young children. Being that it is plastic, my two year old did get his hands on it and break off one of the little outside gates/doors, so it may not be ideal for children who play hard with their toys or if you have mischievous younger siblings around. This one like our other Calico Critter products is cleverly and intelligently designed and charms both the adult and child alike.

I think this product is very imaginative and durable. The only reason I gave durability four stars instead of five is because there are some small parts that come off (they are meant to), sometimes my daughter needs help putting them back on, but as far as the toy is made, it's made very durably. I'm sure this toy is intended for children older than two, but we gave this toy to my daughter when she turned two because she had played with it at a toy store, and she LOVES this toy. She's now had it for six months and she still plays with it all the time. The rabbit family and baby rabbit twins accompanied the house when we gave it to her (purchased separately). It is expensive, but my daughter has definitely gotten our money's worth out of it. There are some smaller pieces that you'll want to remove if your child gets easily frusterated or is still younger than three or maybe even four (such as the very charming little baby mobile on the 2nd floor, which is in four parts). We also bought her the playground set, but at age two she couldn't yet get the rabbits to stay on the equipment, so we've set that aside until she's a little older.

My 3 1/2 year old received this for Christmas and it has been a hit! She has spent hours playing with it and I can't wait to add on to it through time. Just know that it is only big enough for the Calico babies, the other family members are too big to fit inside.

My 3 year old daughter loves this toy. She plays with it everyday. Be aware that the pieces are extremely small. Should not be given to any child that would be put small objects in his/her mouth.

I got this for my daughter for her birthday and spent [..] on it in the toystore thinking that it would be well worth the $$$. I cannot figure out why these things are sooo expensive! The windmill is just plastic and the little door that opens already broke! The mobile that is attached to the windmill part falls off every time we turn it!

The critters themselves are very sweet and I like some of the wooden furniture, but I would not recommend the windmill. It is not worth the price we paid for it.

Got this for my 4 year old niece for christmas along with the two extra levels (bathroom and playroom). I got it with a twenty percent off coupon so the house was a reasonable price. I found the playroom at HomeGoods at half off and the bathroom was only fifteen here on amazon. So overall, I got the whole thing for around sixty. It comes with tons of little furniture and accessories (some of them are very tiny in case you have babies). The house is lots of fun; the hot air ballon fits one baby critter and goes up and down (acts as an elevator in my niece's pretend play). FYI the house comes with no babies, but you should be able to get a pack of two at any toy store for about seven bucks. My niece and I erected this in the hallway outside her bedroom (for whatever reason) right after christmas and it is still there-- gets played with everyday. We love the slide on the side the best.

Only downside is that there isn't good storage for all the little pieces. Luckily my mom got my niece a calico critters carrying case with lots of great drawers, so we dump the pieces in there to keep track of them.

Well, we ordered this item for Christmas, and when we assembled it we noticed that the windmill appeared broken. We contacted the seller who very graciously sent us another one since Calico Critters doesn't offer replacement parts. Crazy on Callico Critters part! Anyway, we received the "new" playhouse today only to find that the windmill is broken in it as well! Obviously, there is a packing problem where the windmill gets damaged during transport or the windmill is just poorly assembled/created by the manufacturer. We have many many Calico items, and this has been a dissapointment as far as quality and durability! At this point we have two houses with defective windmills! I wouldn't recommend this toy because of the poor durability. I will note, however, that my daughter still enjoys playing with it, but she gets frustrated when the windmill falls off as it does with play.

My daughter absolutely loves this set. Not only is it beautiful, She loves it and it's also well made. I can not say enough good things about this playset~!

My daughter loves Calico Critters but I have to say that for $50.00 there's not much to this toy. I really think the price is unreasonable. If you buy it, buy it on sale.
