Del the Funky Homosapien has been my favorite MC for years, and this album doesn't dissapoint. The DVD is raw, and packs in lots of live footage, interviews, and is well produced.
If you are a fan of Del, you know you have to pick this up.

This cd was so impressive to me i usually dont take time to give my opinion of things, but this cd needs it. I was suprised there wasn't much hype over this album, being its some of the best hip-hop i've heard ever, and my favorite two acts Del and Zion I. Not one song is slacking this album has a higher standard than i ever thought it to. I've been a Del fan for about 2 years and more and more psyched about what he is doing as time continues, Zion I is never a let dull moment with style all his own, Haiku DeTat never heard of them before but i'm a new fan, and will follow these guys. Calicomm is the best buy i've gotten in the past years. can't wait till Del's 11th hour hits the shelves.
If you like any song from Del or Hiero, as well as Zion i this cd is for you, new sound from all acts in my opinion the best sound to date.

I got this cause I'm a big Project Blowed / Haiku d'Etat fan. There's definitely some good stuff on this album. Haiku's "Place We Call Home" (prod. by Fat Jack) is good enough to be on the Coup de Theatre album. "Krazy World" (also by Fat Jack) is also a sweet track. "Purgatory" (prod. by Myka 9) is a hard-hitting track that takes some getting used to. Overall good album.
Here's the stats on the DVD--- 1. 12 Hours In Boulder documentary (35 min). Includes footage of Haiku & Zion I riding go-carts and recording a track in the studio, along with footage of Del working on tracks in his hotel room. Concludes with 10 min of footage from the concert, including "Triumvirate" by Haiku. 2. Concert -- * Zion I (13 min). * Haiku d'Etat (23 min). Ab starts it off with a medley track. Myka 9 performs 7th Seal, Set You Free, and his verse from Shammys. Aceyalone performs Do Unto Others. Abstract Rude and Aceyalone do B-boy Real McCoy and GB in Your Life. Haiku performs Mike Aaron & Eddie and Dogs. * Del w/ Opio (15 min). Performs If You Must, the video game song (don't know the name), etc. 3. Encore (15 min). A long posse encore with freestyles and flows by Tee Double, Bukue One, Zion, Deuce Eclipse, Opio, Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, Myka 9, and DeL... DJ'd by Amp Live, DJ Drez, and Zac Hendrix. Definitely worth checking out, especially if you haven't had the opportunity to see these cats live. For more dope footage of Haiku check out the Project Blowed 10th Anniversary comp. Peace.

Del and the Hieroglyphics crew have been making some of the finest hip-hop for a long time. They come together with some other gems to produce one of the best hip-hop albums of 2005! If you love alternative hip-hop of the hieroglyphics crew, defiantly pick this album up!
Check out tracks 2,3,4,6,7,11,12 and 16. My absolute favorite song is 12. I love Del's catchy verses and obscure references.

This is an great cd of hot new tracks from the artists on the 2004 Calicomm tour lineup. Del the Funkee Homosapien, Haiku D'Etat, Zion I, and even Bukue One. If you know anything about these artists, you probably have this cd already! Truly three of the greats not only from California, but in Hiphop as a whole today. This cd not only offers some tight tracks from the three artists themselves, but some interesting combinations of the idividuals involved.
It starts out with an intro by Haiku D'Etat's DJ Drez, and moves right into the bangin' posse cut "Ride Off Into the Sunset," w/ Haiku, Zion I, and Deuce Eclipse. The best song IMO is Haiku D'Etat's "Purgatory," which also happens to be the most upbeat track off "Calicomm 2004," and all three members rip it insanely. Another great song is "Borderline" by Zion I f/ Aceyalone. Zion I's track, w/DUST and Deuce, called "Target Practice" is excellent, with a great beat once again by Amp Live. Haiku D'Etat's other song is a standout, as is the last one: "Krazy World" w/Abstract Rude, Aceyalone, and Zion- a short and very melodic track. Four members of the Hieroglyphics (Casual, A-Plus, Pep Love, Tajai) even show up for a track, "Leroy," which was subpar IMO. Bukue One's only track, "Neva Stop," was very good. The cd picks up and is outstanding in the second half. I also like how it featured a live set for all three artists. The MVP of this cd I think is Abstract Rude, who sings the hooks on a couple of songs, and is at his tightest lyrically. Aceyalone also had plenty of outstanding moments. The DVD is very nice as well. First, it has like a 30 min documentary where you get to know all the artists up close & personal off the stage, and then a bit of live footage at the end. You see Del making some music, and the guys of Zion I and Haiku recording in studio, as well as out on a go-cart racing track and minature golf course. Then there is 50 minutes of footage for all three artists. Wow! Zion I apparently has the best live show. Then it even shows footage of an encore where a whole bunch of artists get involved and freestyle. A tight CD and DVD cannot be missed, so hurry up and get this before it goes out of print! You will be suprised at the quality of the material if you know these artists already, and it's a great way to get an overview of all of them if you happened to have been sleeping on them. Highly recommended! |
