In the summer of 1792 two Spanish schooners inspected the Pacific Coast, seeking a Spanish Northwest Passage. Their experiences are translated into English and hold special value for any studying the early indigenous peoples of California. This coverage includes a vocabulary and catechism of the Carmel Mission Indians which was missing in earlier editions, and is supplemented with authors' observations and biographical notes. -- Midwest Book Review
