1.0 out of 5 stars Not for super sensitive skin
My 2 yo has very sensitive skin w/ a moderate case of eczema. This sunscreen seems to make her break out for some reason. It also, as expected w/ the ingredients listed, doesn't absorb and doesn't wash off too well (have to scrub it off). Onward w/ my search for the right sunblock...

When we had our first child, we researched what type of sunblock was safe to use for our baby. We found that products with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide were the safest. Both of these ingredients rest on top of the skin, rather than getting absorbed into the skin. We also read that any SPF rating above 30 is unnecessary as they aren't actually more effective but contained more chemicals that could actually be harmful. Finding products that met those conditions were much harder to find than I expected.

The California Baby brand was about the only one we could find initially that used titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. We started out with the fragrance free lotion and it was good at blocking out the sun, but did not completely prevent a tan. It also required a bit more time to apply and was somewhat difficult to apply on the face as it is a bit runny. I bought the stick version to address those issues and carry both of them in our car and diaper bags. Also, unless you rub the sunblock in very well, your kids will look like ghosts, teehee.

We like how safe and effective the California Baby sunblock lotion and stick are for our children. We tend to use the lotion most of the time and use the stick only for their faces and for when we are short on time (which seems like all the time). The pack of 2 that Amazon sells this for is a bargain compared to what we have paid in brick and mortar stores. We will likely buy these again from Amazon next summer, when ours is likely to run out.

I am an adult and I use it. I have very sensitive skin and it works great. It does come out with a bit of white film. Use less and rub in and it help reduce the whiteness. Otherwise it does not irritate the skin.

they sell this in a stick form which is soooo much easier to use. this stuff is great - works great - only downside is that it makes your face white. anyhow, i'm so happy they make a product like this for babies and kids and people who don't like chemicals :)

We read reviews at [...] on sunscreen safety. We realize no sunscreen is great - that sun hats/clothing and staying out of the sun at peak hours is the best protection, but we like CA Baby and Blue Lizard best of the sunscreens. Good ratings on EWG and seem relatively easy to apply and effective.

One downside - all these safer sunscreens seem to wash off pretty easily, so re-apply if in the water. And remember, different variants from the same company have different ingredients! Not all Blue Lizard products, for example, all get the same rating! Do your homework and good luck!

Granted this is an expensive sun screen but is a well rated product and is gentle compared to other sunscreens. I read the Environmental Working Group's report about the ingredients used in some other brands and the scathing review about some of these ingredients. I have to say this sunscreen works well and is great for little kids. It is pricy, but lasts a long time.

I have tried other brands such as Aveeno, Banana Boat for babies and Neutrogena, but am sticking with this one for the little one.

This is a physical sunscreen (as opposed to a chemical one), so it reflects away the UVA and UVB rays. Therefore, make sure it is applied well. The sunscreen makes the skin look a bit white and shiny, but that's not a big deal. I think the sunscreen needs to reapplied so maintain efficacy.

I like it. Use it for myself and planning on using it for my baby.
It proved to save me from major sunburn, I have a very fair skin.
It protected the body parts where I put it on very well, and where I skipped (legs) got burnt very badly.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect sunscreen for babies and adults, August 24, 2009
This review is from: 2 Pack California Baby SPF 30 Super Sensitive Sunscreen Lotion - 2.9 oz each (Health and Beauty)
I love this sunscreen because it doesn't have nasty chemicals in it, and it does what it is supposed to do. I use it for myself, my 2 year old and my seven month old. I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

Considering how "goopy" these barrier sunscreens can be, this one is probably my favorite. It is easier to rub in than most of them. My one year old has extremely sensitive skin and does best with this product on her face.

This is the best sunscreen out there. It's not loaded with chemicals and works like a charm! My kids have never been sunburned! It can leave your skin a bit white, but the key is to use very little of the sunscreen and apply. It doesn't take much of this stuff to work wonders! I highly recommend it for kids and adults! It comes in no fragrance or fragrance (which I think is citronella). My kids like the fragrant one too.
