I have had this book on my shelf since it first came out. I originally bought it for the beautiful pictures of the food and all the different regions of California, and I was moving away. The book is so beautiful, in fact, that I hesitated using it and risking spills. Then something caught my eye - maybe the Pistachio Cheese Wafers, the Pork and Prune Skewers, Blum's...

The book was supposed to be "like new". I was disappointed in the condition of the book. The cover jacket was dirty.

I have had this book on my shelf since it first came out. I originally bought it for the beautiful pictures of the food and all the different regions of California, and I was moving away. The book is so beautiful, in fact, that I hesitated using it and risking spills. Then something caught my eye - maybe the Pistachio Cheese Wafers, the Pork and Prune Skewers, Blum's Coffee Crunch Cake - I started reading, then cooking, the recipes and every single one is delicious. They are the kinds of recipes that I go back to over and over again. Mr. Carroll is in the tradition and style of cooking that has been passed down from James Beard to Marion Cunningham and now to him. This is a book you will never regret buying.
