California Coastal Wildlife And Waterfalls,

This review is from: California: Coastal Wildlife & Waterfalls / Waves: Virtual Vacations (Double Feature) (DVD)
If you like waterfalls you will love this dvd.The waterfalls are really peaceful.Day 1 starts with Burney Falls. You see different falls some big some little.Waterfalls is all you will see on day 1.Day 3 starts off with a waterfall that eventually pours into the ocean. You can here both the waterfall and the waves crashing. There is also some beautiful ocean views on this disc.If you like wildlife there is plenty elephant and harbor seals, gulls etc.It even shows a seal having a baby on the island. You will also see a beautiful lighthouse on day 4 and a lake on day 2.The sunsets are beautiful. On side 2 you get Califonia Dreams with big waves.I also recommend Whispering Waters which is shot in Yosimite National Park with over 1 hour of waterfalls with natural sounds only.

Colors, Nature, Peace & Beauty!,

This review is from: California: Coastal Wildlife & Waterfalls / Waves: Virtual Vacations (Double Feature) (DVD)
I found California, Coastal Wildlife & Waterfalls to be quite relaxing. The locations that were shot are so unique. Each day the DVD, takes you to another exquisite spot with picturesque and breathtaking beauty. I don't know how anyone can find these places, and to find them so quiet and natural. I have traveled to Yosemite and the Central Coast of California, while on both vacations I was there with my video camera ...along with 100 other tourists. Thus I have the conversations of many couples as my audio plays from my own tape. Waves gets all of the sounds and sights of nature. And nature is so accommodating. For example, on Day 2 at Fallen Leaf Lake, the duck enters the water and zigzags back and forth like a well rehearsed actor. How many hours, how many days must one shoot that lake to get a picture so real. Then you want to notice the colors. I just want to pause the DVD and get my canvas and brushes out to paint some of these scenes. I can not imagine how many Sunsets one must film before you get all the color that this DVD captures. I have been under the stress of the slower real estate market lately and I find that when I put in this DVD at the end of the day, my own peace and serenity return to my soul. The best part is once I finished watching the DVD I ejected it, flipped it over and I get a BONUS DVD, "California Dreams". Now I ask you, how do you beat that? A second great DVD to relax with! I recommend this DVD to anyone looking to unwind and relax. Check out the sounds, the sights, the live animals and the natural beauty of California.

You can also be apart of wildlife...watch a baby harbor seal swim with his Mom for the first time at Pt. Lobos...seabirds at Pigeon Pt. Lighthouse..and be there for the birth of a of an elephant seal in San Simeon. I liked my Hawaiian Dream dvd so much, I purchased this California Coastal Wildlife and Waterfalls. They are both wonderful, but I would have liked to see more waterfalls and bubbling brooks in this one, and fewer waves. Another viewer commented that the sea lion scene is visually disturbing; I'll add that the sound of the animals barking is sharp and discordant--always wakes me up if I'm drowsing.

This is an exceptional DVD. The colors, sounds, and scenery are so well done that you really do feel transported to the locales. If this won't relax you, I don't know what will. I plan on buying more of these in the very near future. The possibilities are endless. I hope that someday, perhaps the creator will consider some misty Maine shipyards or somethig like that. Now, the only reason I didn't give this DVD 5 stars is that the scenes on Day 6 or 7 (can't recall) seemed to my wife and I completely out of place. Granted, the DVD does explicity state wildlife is part of the package. However, the scenese are of seals snapping at, and biting, one another, some apparently having been wounded in the necks, which are reddish. Thumbs up as a wildlife scene, thumbs down in the "soothing images" department. My wife actually turned her head once or twice to look away. I'm a bit mystified at that content, considering that the rest of the DVD was so peaceful and beautiful. Still, a great product over all!

The California Coastal Wildlife & Waterfalls DVD is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC on an ipod for relaxing at bedtime, or for relaxing anywhere. I bought it and watch it on my ipod at night, in a darkened room, and it lulls me to sleep. I love that there's no music --- just the sounds of the water and birds.
The scenery is unbelievably beautiful and the pictures very clear. For most scenes I feel as if I'm right there, surrounded by so much natural beauty. The scenes showing seals (or perhaps they're sea lions?) cavorting are mostly very sweet (moms and babies) but I do wonder why the producer included some footage of a few seals sort of fighting, and a mother seal actually giving birth. Those scenes somewhat interrupted the overall tranquility of the DVD but they were very brief --- possibly less than a minute each. I did not enjoy the free bonus DVD "California Dreams" which is on the flip side of the DVD. I prefer nature scenes so I didn't really like watching waves under a bridge and sailboats. Also, the beach scenes on the "California Dreams" free bonus DVD seemed a bit boring. However, I cannot say enough good things about the "California Coastal Wildlife & Waterfalls" DVD --- especially if you intend to watch it on an ipod or on your computer. Those are the only two ways I viewed it. I'm sure it would also be relaxing viewed on a regular TV screen. Before purchasing this DVD I read the Amazon reviews and watched available clips posted for these Greg Voevodsky DVDs. It was hard to decide which one to buy. I am very happy with the DVD I chose and encourage interested buyers to view the clips first. Thank you Greg Voevodsky for this spectacular, relaxing DVD.

This review is from: California: Coastal Wildlife & Waterfalls / Waves: Virtual Vacations (Double Feature) (DVD)
The other reviews I read have done a great job of detailing the superb contents of this disk, so I won't repeat them. My contribtion is this: Greg Voevodsky, the creative genius of the 'Waves' series and others has managed to make the leap from mesmerizing to magical. I was already a devotée of Greg's work when I first enjoyed 'California/Coastal Wildlife and Waterfalls'. So I knew how captivating his production style was. The very simplicity and lack of unnatural adornments (like elevator music to remind us of the spiritual sweetness of the scene) gives this work and all his others an inherent elegance that magnifies the beauty of what he films ... by showing it the respect it deserves. I don't use 'purity' very often, so I mean it when I say there is an elemental purity at the heart of the experiences he creates. Upon first beholding the waterfalls, it took a whole five minutes for me to become lost among their ceaseless, snowy cascades. My personality does not make relaxation easy for me, but this DVD unplugged me from my myriad concerns. I had real trouble getting me back to 'reality'. For my money, THAT is POWER. Power of the most relieving and beneficial kind.I will send a copy to my best efriend, a smart, ambitious and humane woman who lives in the torment only CFIDS sufferors like she and I (and millions of others) know intimately. For all of us with crushing, chronic illnesses, deep relaxation eases our pain and enhances our feeling of well-being (not a commodity in great supply among we chronics).I am not a total shut-in, but I do spend a lot of my time at home. This comes from a lack of the endurance required for a multi-hour social event with friends. The natural result? We don't have many. Our major stressors are organic to our plights. For me, to stress means to hurt worse all over. It also means a slower rate of recovery ... the thing we all live for.So mellowing us out isn't easy, but the rewards are are literal life savers, or, at the very least, sanity savers. And, as the saying goes, 'Of all the things I've lost in life; it's my sanity I miss the most.''CALIFORNIA/Coastal Wildlife & Waterfalls' is flawlessy produced and a major balm to anything that ails you. The world is now a nicer, less frazzled place because of it. Thanks, again, Greg! And keep'em comin'!

The picture is amazing...very sharp. These are real scenes of beautiful beaches, coastlines and waterfalls. If you want something with that wow effect for your new TV it is definitely worth the money.
Downside: It's not widescreen. Expanding the image can make it look wide or fuzz the edges, which is not what you want when showing off that new widescreen HD flatscreen. |
