This breathtaking book of wine reminds of a Cezanne still life. Quiet, contained, yet brimming with lush imagery; aromatic with red currant, dark chocolate, Cuban cigars.

Approach it with the poetic silence and dignity it deserves. Not an attention deficit travel guide, but a book of wine poetry and geographical prose.

2.0 out of 5 stars Seemingly just an advertising piece
Very disappointed - appears to be a book of likely paid advertisements for selected wineries, with barely lip service to the great majority of the regions producers.

Although it smolders with luxury, FINE WINERIES is also a practical Mapquest on one's journey and romance with wine. I am from Texas; my boyfriend, an Alaskan. We needed a navigation through this beautiful Central Coast and this book was our North Star.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Wine Country Books!, February 12, 2011
This review is from: The California Directory of Fine Wineries: Central Coast: Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles (Hardcover)
Just returned from California. We went to the "Sideways" wine country north of Santa Barbara but had no idea that there are hundreds of wineries throughout this area. With no real plan of where to go we picked up this gorgeous book. It made our decisions easy. This amazing photography captured the essence of each place. We selected tasting rooms based on each winery's specialty. Every recommendation was spot on; great wine and such CHARMING little tasting rooms. The overview for each winery is well written. It's a must read and the perfect travel guide for exploring this lesser known wine country. We even brought one home to give as a gift. Highly recommended.
