5.0 out of 5 stars Great travel guide for a vacation to California
Going to a place for the first time like California, we felt innundated by choices of where to go and what to do. This guide provided everything we needed...from tips on getting around to the best places to stay and eat. It didn't dumb down and really sent us to the perfect places.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not good not bad!
This book gives a list of hotels and restaurants and tips related to weather and means of transport. It was outdated in regard to prices & some addresses. Also it had a list of attractions but not enough details. Also it misses some of the nicer areas to visit. however if you want a basic idea about where to go, it emphasizes the best attractions. 5.0 out of 5 stars A must if you are vacationing in California!, June 10, 2008
By
I purchased this book and read it cover to cover before my recent trip to California. I can't express enough how helpful it was. Everything just made sense. I felt like I knew a lot about the state before I even went there and when I was there it all clicked. We even tried a couple of hotel recommendations with great success. (The Fogcatcher Inn in Cambria, near Hearst Castle was wonderful). This book is for someone planning to VACATION in California. The places that are not tourist worthy are not mentioned and they tell you that from the get go. Trust me, the vacation destinations are all here and written about in great easy to read detail. You will be glad you bought this book before your trip.

1.0 out of 5 stars Major omissions and requires major editing, February 28, 2007
By
This book was a major disappointment for our trip. Consider the following typical omissions. San Jose is the 10th largest city in the entire country, and this book does NOT list a single hotel, restaurant, or attraction in the entire city. Stanford University and the town of Palo Alto similarly do not merit a single word in this book (although lots of silly tourist traps get multiple pages). Even when a town is covered, major hotels and attractions are missing. In my opinion, this book appeared to contain only "cut and paste" filler that one could get randomly from Internet sites.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good General Guide, June 12, 2007
I found this book very beneficial on my recent trip to California. There were some great suggestions on off the path excursions that I would not have experienced had I not read about them in this book.
