5.0 out of 5 stars THE required text for your CA Real Estate License
This book is the standard text for college level real estate course RE101. An excellent book with many walkthru examples to help understand difficult situations. GREAT BOOK!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I expected
The author attempts to break down the different concepts of CA real estate by presenting the concept then explaining it with an example. There are a few errors noted (mostly in spelling and grammar), but other than that the book is very easy to read and understand if you have a real estate dictionary or some other type of outside text help. The author goes over the basic...

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete Guide to California Real Estate, February 10, 2007
This book is designed to be useful in several different situations.

It's primary goal is to be used as a text and examination preparation guide for people wanting to become real estate agents and who are required to take a class before they take the examination. The book provides a strong basic understanding of the principles of California real estate. The end of the book has a 150 question examination that is similar in format and content to the state test.

Alternatively this book will also be useful to individuals who wish to become informed consumers and/or investors and desire to know more about the law and the processes that are applicable to California real estate.

This is the eighth edition of this book, as such it reflects recent changes in the law, as well as having corrected errors and points of confusion found in previous editions. This is a large book that completely covers the subject.

California Real Estate Principles is easy to read and straight forward. It is a great starter's book for real estate. The summarys and questions at the end of each chapter make it easy to review. The glossary and index at the end of the book are more than helpful.

Excellent book. Large print. Clear and easy to read. Well written and well organized. Highly recommended. This is part of a series of books which all seem good; (I have purchased 2 others in the series, but not read them yet). This particular book is great!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful to learn RE terms, July 20, 2008
This is geared towards those wanting to take their RE license exam to become RE agents, although this is a great book for anyone wanting to learn the ins and outs of real estate. Terms are explained, the process for selling/buying, and some real estate history.

The author attempts to break down the different concepts of CA real estate by presenting the concept then explaining it with an example. There are a few errors noted (mostly in spelling and grammar), but other than that the book is very easy to read and understand if you have a real estate dictionary or some other type of outside text help. The author goes over the basic principles of CA real estate, but when it comes to specifics, the book is really lacking. Overall, this book is great if one decides to use it for a class to supplement the instructor, but I wouldn't use this book in lieu of an instructor.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lengthy with obvious errrors, October 5, 2011
By
Peter Sedivec (Berkeley, CA United States) - See all my reviews
Unfortunately this is the standard real estate text so there just aren't many other options. It covers the content fairly well but it's very frustrating to me when the book contains errors and mistakes, especially when you're using it as a reference. For instance, the Quiz Answers for Chp 7 #4 is C, but this is directly out of the CA real estate form 14B where 17 days is the default timeline for disclosures.

The book is also extremely lengthy and just goes through way too much detail and repeats over and over similar topics. Quizes from different chapters have essentially the same question.

The book would be better if it were 100pgs shorter, and more accurate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for lenders, August 19, 2005
By
This review is from: California Real Estate Principles, Copyright Update (South-Western Series in California Real Estate) (Paperback)
I am a new lender and this book has been very helpful when it comes to lending with real estate collateral. It is an interesting read and gives enough information to be knowledgable without over-burdening you with too much detail.

2.0 out of 5 stars How is this book a standard in CA real estate education?, February 21, 2012
I disagree with the reviews that claim this book is an easy read. Although the sentence structure and word choice are easy to comprehend, the contents of this book are a mess.So many redundant passages and recycled questions. Answers to some questions are not even from the chapter you're reading but from subsequent or even future chapters. I read these books (principles, finance, and practice) entirely and took all the quizzes, I am not confident that I will pass the test. I would compare the author's writing level to that of a freshmen in high school. These authors took the CA Real Estate Reference Book "A Real Estate Guide" and expanded on it...poorly. I have never seen so many errors and misspellings in a published text book before. This book does not offer you a clear logical course on CA Real estate, it is a mumble jumble of facts and ideas from the author. P.S. The online material deadlines are set to Eastern Time.
