I compared quite a few products before deciding on this one and I am pleased with my purchase. The resistance level of the stepper is easy to adjust and can be set high enough to give even a fit person a good workout. The twister plate has to be used for quite a while before any sort of "burn" occurs because it offers no resistance, but in any case it is fun and you can get a cardiovascular workout from it. My only complaint is that it seems a bit "tippy" but it hasn't been a problem for me. All and all it is a good product.

I get a really good workout on this. It doesn't have a calorie counter (does have step counter and timer though) but I work up a good sweat easily in twenty minutes - much more so than on my bike which I also love! It's super quiet so which is ideal for me since I get bored easily when working out but if I can hear & see the television I don't realize how long I've been at it. The resistance levels are adjustable so you can tailor the stress to your own needs. It also seems pretty easy on the joints - having a history of knee trouble I have to say I haven't had any with this!! I love the weights too!! I really get a good all over workout by making use of them as well. Less than two weeks after I got this product people at work were coming up to me saying, "have you started working out?". That's always a good sign!! The twister doesn't have any resistance but I still find it to be good for the waist line. I reccomend not OVERdoing it becuase you think it's so easy without the resistance but you sure feel it in your waist the next day if you go overboard.
The downside of this product is if you have trouble keeping your balance I wouldn't risk it. I'm 105 pound, 5'4" female in better than average shape. Although the product says it allows for a heavier person I'd use caution with that. A few years ago I was 80 pounds heavier than I am today and I remember having some severe balance issues with the added weight. Also, maybe not good for the elderly. My mother is 63 and I bought her one too. She loves it but uses the weights separately from the stairstepper becuase she has trouble balancing and using the weights simultaneously - and she's in REALLY GOOD shape to be the age she is. She still gets a great workout though - we both use it about 45 minutes to 1 hour a day (watching the evening news or OPRAH). This and a bicycle or treadmill make a perfect home gym for kind of an all over workout. It takes up very little space and is essentially noise free. This is definitely an ideal product for the right person!!!

This is JUNK. I got it as a gift for my Mom and it broke after two weeks. She contacted the manufacturer, and they sent her the part that broke, so she took it apart and fixed it. About two weeks later, it broke again (different part). All told, she's had 5 different things break on it. When it works well, it works, but it's too flimsy. She's given up...

It assembled quickly, and it is silent as long as you remember to tighten the pre assembled parts. It doesn't have a very steep step, the movements are small but work well. The price is excellent and it fits nicely in my tiny apartment.
It's so cute!

I live in an apt. and it is perfect for the space. I needed a machine with handles compared to the more compact machines now available. The step movement only allows you to take short quick steps unlike large gym stairsteppers, but it is a great workout if you want it to be. I'm toning up just fine.

Not what I'd hoped,

First off, this stair stepper is NOT quiet. The pedals clunk and creak, and after 5 minutes of usage the hydraulics begin to wheeze. The feet are not level so it rocks slightly back and forth (it's not because of an uneven floor). It was assembled correctly and all the screws are tight, but there is a lot of give in the main stem and the handles are so loose they move an inch in a front/back motion. I've had this piece of equipment for two weeks and use it 3 or 4 times a week for 15 minutes at a time. Every time I use it, I hear new squeaks, clunks or other noises. It's so loud I'm afraid of waking up my napping toddler in the next room. I really thought I'd get better quality for the money. I'm dissapointed with this purchase. I would have done better to get the $40 mini-stepper from Target.
