4.0 out of 5 stars "Remember that game you could play Hacky Sack in?", January 19, 2010

Some nintendo games over the years fall from memory. One game that we would always talk about years later was California Games. It was always, "remember that game you could play hacky sack in?" This game always stood out amongst other nes sports games. The game plays as a competition that you enter competing in a different range of games. Compete on the half pipe skateboarding, play hacky sack aka foot bag, surf the coast, roller skate the beach, ride in the bmx competition, and finnally throw the flying disk. The controls for this game can be tough at first. Especially without a game manual. It will take you a little bit to get used to but nothing too frustrating. It's a very original concept that stands alone in it's category. I still can't figure out why no ones since put hacky sack in another game. For 1987 it's a fun play with decent graphics of familar California back drops. My favorite events are surfing, hacky sack, and BMX-ing (think Excite Bike). This is one of the only NES games that I can remember, where you can play with up to 7 people. That really makes this a game best played with some friends. There's not too much to do when you play by yourself. Mostly just competing with yourself and the computer for high scores. It would of been cool to have a story mode but competing amongst up to 7 of your friends and seeing who comes out on top is a good trade off. Other games should have picked up on this as you can just pass around the same controller instead having 7 different ones. For hacky sack alone get this game. But you'll find the other games on here to be alot of fun too.

I bought this as a little suprise for my Fiance. He had been wanting this game forever but other things seemed to come up and he just never bought it, so thats when I finally decided to suprise him with it. IT WORKS GREAT!! We both love to play this game.

Thanks!
