Editorial Reviews

Never before released radio transcriptions by jazz's greatest pianist, recorded for KHJ (Los Angeles) in 1940. The discovery of these milestone recordings may be the single most important contribution to jazz in decades. One of the goals of Memphis Archives is to preserve our rich American musical heritage by making these historical recordings available. Without this concern, thousands of songs from the dawn of the recording industry would be lost forever. By purchasing this CD, you have become part of this effort to preserve our musical heritage for future generations.

There is no such thing as a bad Art Tatum recording. The magic of his playing comes through on every recording I have. That's why I have to keep buying everything with his name remotely connected. I wish we had an artist like this today! I was lucky enough to see Oscar Peterson a year or so before he died, but I never saw Art Tatum live. You can see old footage of Art Tatum on "You Tube", but there is nothing like the recordings.
