This review is from: Race Riot (A California Pelican Bay Prison Story) (Kindle Edition)
The amazing details of prison life - code words that prisoners use, explanations of how they commuicate from cell to cell - really make you feel you have entered a different world, or like you are watching a movie about prison life. The story shows how race riots that can kill prisoners can be started for very small and seemingly unimportant reasons, and how violence permeates every aspect of prison life. A gripping read that will help you understand the inhumanity of the prison system and why violence within it is almost inevitable.

Breathlessly Raw,

This review is from: Race Riot (A California Pelican Bay Prison Story) (Kindle Edition)
A raw, breathless descent through the inner circle of the California Penal Hell. Fraught with detail that only someone who's been there could know.

The author reveals the level of desperation inside a maximum security prison, where everyone becomes a warrior in the battle to survive.

This story showed me that not all of the inmates in the Pelican Bay SHU or other Super Max prisons are all the worst of the worst. It seems the prison system in California breeds violence and defending yourself, or taking a commanding role in defending your race, even for reasons beneficial to survival, can get you labeled, "A shot caller" and then, that's all folks, welcome to the SHU and Super Max.

This review is from: Race Riot (A California Pelican Bay Prison Story) (Kindle Edition)
This book by Glenn (I've read 2 others so far, both excellent) is an eye opening glimpse inside the prison system. Like his other works, Glenn will keep you page turning until the end!! I highly recommend this book and do yourself a favor and check out the other two books I've read:[...] [...] Can't wait to read another!!!ROLL CALL by Glenn Langohr

Does this really go on in our prison system?,

A beautifully written expose of a violent prison system. This book was recommended by a friend so I downloaded it to my computer. I don't have a Kindle so I normally print these out to read at leisure. However once I took an initial glance I just kept reading until 2 hours later I was finished. A bit of a shocker really. The author writes with deep emotion and feeling. I'm darn glad I'm a law-abiding citizen as I wouldn't want to go through any of this!!

this is an extremely realistic story about inmates in a hellish prison.i found it sad and somewhat touching.prison life created more punishment from prisoners themselves than from the system.

This is an interesting look into the world of a prisoner. A family member of mine was in jail for five years so this helped shed some light on what they went through, the mindset and the world in which the prisoners lived without it being over dramatized for television. What really shines through in this novella is the detail the author puts into the things only a ex prisoner would know.

The story starts with a visually intense prison riot from the eyes of the main character, B.J, who is leaving California's hardest core prison, Pelican Bay, to enter another violent prison. From there, B.J gets into the politics of prison life as he tries to deal with problems between races and the prison staff and stay alive while searching for a chance to change his life.

This is a must read for anyone who loves someone who struggles with addiction and gets in trouble with the law. We have to find ways to be smart on crime, because the prison system is making it worse. No wonder so many released prisoners go back. Well written with vivid characters.
