The taste is very good,if you taste it at all.

The oil doesn't smoke at high temperatures so you can stir-fry foods at higher temperatures than other oils, like olive oil.

Works great on Salmon on the grill (both sides) and for baking chicken in the oven (turned out golden brown and moist).

This rice bran oil is not made from "California Rice Bran". The rice is imported from Thailand and is very processed. I should have purchased the Tophe rice oil that is made from u.s. rice bran and packaged in glass bottles. If you do a Google search on this company you'll find out that the rice is solvent extracted, neutralized with alkali, bleached with activated carbon, and deodorized with steam. They don't mention any of this on their website.

I first read about this oil in Cooks Illustrated magazine. Here's what I love:
1) highest smoke point--I see cooking shows all the time heating up olive oil in a saute pan--DON"T!
2) VERY neutral flavor--whether baking, pan frying, marinating, etc. the oil flavor is in the background
3) doesn't solidify in the fridge (in salad dressings, marinades, etc.) like olive oil
4) best oil out there for good fat composition

Everyone touts olive oil as so good for you, and it does have its place, as does grapeseed oil. But if you only want to buy ONE healthy oil for many cooking uses, buy this--you won't be sorry.

*Note: when my bottles arrives they each had a little bit of oil leakage around the top. Even though the bottles are sealed on top in plastic wrapper they are NOT sealed underneath the cap. I contact the manufacturer and alerted them to this--maybe they'll make a change.

I originally bought a gallon bottle directly from California Rice Bran Oil Company but decided I'd rather have smaller bottles opened (for freshness) since it takes me a while to use it up. Amazon was cheaper for a 3-pack with free super saver shipping.

The company is "Double 7 Products Inc" which is "doing business as California Rice Company"; the name sounds more like Hong Kong than California rice growers. The headquarters are in Novato and the company is described as a major importer. One might think this comes from rice grown in California but where is that written on the company's website? Nowhere I could find. My guess: if it does not say it is grown in California, it isn't, and it probably isn't grown in the U.S. So the question becomes: am I better off paying twice as much for this rice oil as rice oil that I know is grown in Arkansas (online from Riceland) by American farmers with whatever levels of contaminants the we know about here, or from some unknown source? A little further web research and I found a site called importgenius that shows container shipments to Double 7 Products,California Rice Co., from THAI EDIBLE OIL CO.,LTD in Bangkok. Not so bad, I like Thai rice. Still, don't you think they should label their food Product of Thailand? Maybe this rice oil is a bit overpriced considering Thai factory workers make less than $3/hr and farm workers much less than that. But they probably repackage it in California, hard to say.

I purchased this based on a story I read about its nutritional qualities. I haven't used it a lot yet, but for the times I have, I have been really impressed. It is a very light and doesn't burn or smoke easily.

For those that want to get away from vegetable oil or one that seems to be more versatile, I would certainly recommend trying this one.

I have purchased this oil from California Rice Oil Co. before and the price is great and the service is the best. I compared many companies before ordering and none were comparable. I was surprised at the size of the bottle for the price. I have been using this oil for about 20 years and it just makes food taste so good and yours taste better and richer. Thanks for your great service!!

The oil is very nice - quite neutral-tasting. I like that it's sold in several smaller bottles rather than one large one, so that it stays fresher.

I can't get rice bran oil at all locally, so I was really glad to find this at such a reasonable price. Some others are cheaper, but the shipping is very expensive - this one is a great deal with the free supersaver shipping.

When I heard from my favorite restaurant about the high smoking point of rice bran oil I knew I wanted to use it for cooking. This was the best option I could find, and I am totally happy with it. The price was right (especially because I did not have to pay for shipping), the bottle is attractive, the taste is nice, and I feel like I am using a safe and healthy product.
