Bud's greatest CD. Superb choice of sidemen.,
By bobtaber@prodigy.net (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: California Session (Audio CD)
This session, the only appearance Mr Freeman made at a Poor Angel Jazz Society bash has been rated by All Music Guide "The best of artist". The cream of the crop in California jazzmen were chosen for this session. Freeman had worked with some of jazzmen in years gone by. Drummer Nick Fatool and Freeman had worked together many times over the last forty years plus. The other sidemen (one woman)were mostly unknown to him, but they all all knew the language, and put together a swinging seventy minutes of jazz standards. If you had to have only one Bud Freeman CD, this would be the one. Sidemen include Dick Cathcart, Betty O'Hara, Bob Reitmeier, Howard Alden, Phil Stephens, Ray Sherman, And Nick Fatool.

I've heard other jazz albums that changed my way of thinking about music. But this alubum is the true escence of being Hank's Bio Grandfather. The lows , the highs it all makes sense now. Yes I would have to say this is proof.SakDeez man about town
