1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with this book, its poorly written jumble of info better explained elsewhere, June 26, 2007

This review is from: California Vegetable Patch and Seed Source: The Organic Gardner's Complete Reference Almanac (Paperback)
Know the info in any edition of Sunset's Western Gardens? Then you won't find anything new ( or useful) in this. NOT the well explained techniques of experienced gardeners. In fact they introduce themselves as new gardeners, who have made a lot of mistakes. Yet they don't go on to share much of that. This book really reads as a series notes from books they read and patched all together.
The "hints" sections are mostly silly, and again sound as if the authors read about them somewhere , but havent tried the hints themselves.
The plant lists contain variety descriptions such as "good for Northern states" huh? Again, seem mostly to be compiled lists from other sources, with not very good editing to belong in this " California" almanac. Of the seed sources, there are only a couple listed in California. Their explaination. "once you know your zone" you can order seeds from anywhere! Thanks. The included zone maps are so small, if I didn't know my zone , they would not help me find it.
Not even worth the shipping...I am still looking for a good book to help me chose the best vegies to grow!
