4.0 out of 5 stars Yet Another California Song... That Works?, April 20, 2008
This review is from: California (MP3 Download)
Alright, so how many songs have been written about California? Well, the list is too long, but let's just say classic rock is infatuated with the state. Pop/Rock is also loving up on the state, but it seems they just want to move there from the dreary East. California by Hawk Nelson comes to mind, and it most resembles this song in theme... In fact, they're essentially saying the exact same thing.

This song however falls more in the more piano-based category, having a catchy but simple piano hook that basically stays throughout the song. And the music is what really drives the song here. The lyrics are anything but original. Catchy, Yes. Breaking new ground, No. And again, the lyrics are pretty standard for a California song nowadays. But anyways, structurally, the song starts off with the piano-based hook, before gradually moving to pop/rock territory, and by the chorus it's flat-out pop/rock.

Could they have made it more original, and better? Yes, but not being the most original thing on the block isn't bad either. It's still a catchy tune that's great for driving down the highway in a convertible. Or just down a dirt road with the windows open. Alright, that last one was a little weird...

But I digress, here's to another good California song!
