3.0 out of 5 stars Better than the domestic release.
Fourth single and title track from the album "Californication", this single backs the title track with three live tracks-- two end of the show jams and "I Could Have Lied" from "Blood Sugar Sex Magick". The domestic release split these over two parts and released as a limited edition, so this is the one to get.

The title track is fantastic-- laid back,...

5.0 out of 5 stars The album of the year, June 20, 2000
This review is from: Californication (Audio CD)
Its official and its known that the Red hot chili peppers are the best thing that happened to rock ever. They have continuallly experimented and churned out albums of magnificent musical quality. They are the embodiment and soul of funk rock and are invincible. Their recent adventure -Californication is a milestone ion their career even people who hated them in the begining now love their wholesome user friendly music on californication. It is truly a masterpiece. The best songs on this album are californication, This velvet glove and Emit Remmus.

Each song stands for something wholesome and very soulful. These songs are the type that i listen to thru the whole night. They make me so happy and they really warp my mind. The feeling i get is just too good to be true and is indescribable.

This album is definitely not for fans of pop. Though some people classify this album as pop (I dont know why its pure unadulterated rock.).

The album is complete in all elements. And it is highly reccomended. I also reccomend One hot minute as well as blood sugar sex magik. The pppers are great guys. In fact i suggest a little research into the band before delving into thier work. They are the most interesting people on earth.

Please try the albu listen to it at a friends place or something and dont be critical let their music and lyrics seep into u. then u will realize theyre worth. Just give it a try U will love it. but make sure u have the lyrics as reference . They are excellent.

Hope i have proved helpful please dont be too critical try and see for urself

Ciao

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT SINGLE, July 8, 2000

If you've seen the Chili Peppers on their recent tour and were blown away by the ending jams, then you will love this single. This single has TWO 9 minute jam sessions that the peppers have been ending their shows with.It also contains a live version of "Could Have Lied".

Fourth single and title track from the album "Californication", this single backs the title track with three live tracks-- two end of the show jams and "I Could Have Lied" from "Blood Sugar Sex Magick". The domestic release split these over two parts and released as a limited edition, so this is the one to get.

The title track is fantastic-- laid back, moody, but somehow driven, finding the band experimenting with vocal harmonies and synth sounds in an exposition about the lack of humanity in Hollywood.

"I Could Have Lied" is an interesting ballad, but I always felt that it fell apart on record because Anthony Kiedis' vocal lacked any confidence for a ballad as stripped down as this one. The live take fares a bit better, and Frusciante's feedback-driven soloing is superb. The two jams features a low-tempo groove, some feedback drenched guitar, and some virtually unintelligible singing from Kiedis. It certainly is an interesting display, and it sounds like it would have been fantastic in person, but on record, it loses something.

This single ends up being worthwhile in the end as the three tracks all make for reasonably good listens, but by and large, this is probably only stuff that a diehard would want.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great live jams, March 31, 2001

This CD single by far is the best one from Calfiorication. I have all of the other single's from the album, and this was the last one i had to collect. It contains Californication(album version), I Could Have Lied(Live)-better than the studio version on B.S.S.M., and it also contains to long live jams the band would close their show's with. The two jams are well to put it simply, they are great, there Guitarist sounds like Jimi Hendrix on a good day, and ofcourse all hail Flea. If u dont have it yet, get it!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars They're Not What They Used To Be, September 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Californication (Audio CD)
Here's the bottom line: this is a good, rare edition to a Pepper fan's collection. The two live jams look as if they're a enticing draw but they're not that great. Apparently over the years, the Peppers lost the edge from their musical capabilities. Practicularly Flea who seems as if he traded his bass skills for better songwriting skills. The jams turn out weak and drawn out, but the remaining two songs are obviously a plus. These guys have done better...and they should start wearing more socks on their balls.
