More About the Author

I started out as a poor retarded child in Milltown, New Jersey. But it turned out that I couldn't read the damn multiple choice IQ test because of severe dyslexia. I just answered randomly.I didn't read my first novel until age 19. I did my high school book reports by reading the Classic Comics versions. went on to college where I often used tapes for the blind to avoid having to actually read anything. Somehow I graduated, went to grad-school and became a clinical psychotherapist. After 20 years of working at my family clinics in Aspen and Carbondale Colorado, I decided to become a journalist and was encouraged to also become a screenwriter. Over the years I've had a lot of success as a journalist...screenwriting; not so much.

Eventually I built up a following of about a quarter million readers in 121 countries...mostly in the film, animation and visual fx industries. I became famous in my field without knowing it. When one sits in his garret writing stuff and sending it off to the publisher via the Net, fame comes on tippy toes. As a result I've been asked to present at many cinema and digital entertainment conferences world wide. I co-chair Spain's largest such conference: Mundos Digitales, in La Caruna,Spain. I also sit on the Program board of FMX, Europe's largest Digital Entertainment Conference as well. I also sit on the Board of Advisor's of the VIEW conference in Torin, Italy. But I'm especially proud of my work with 5D (www.5Dconference.com) where I'm on the Advisory Board and I moderate a number of 5D events worldwide. It's all about the future of immersive design of the narrative.

I've also published a number of articles in Education Journals and I won an international award for an article in "On the Horizon" in which I predicted the demise of brick and mortar schools and the re-purposing of teachers. I see virtual human teachers being more patient, knowledgeable and attuned to each individual learner. I see human teachers being in charge.

Along the way I co-founded Virtual Personalities, Inc. As president, I was in charge of the development of Sylvie, the first truly intelligent virtual human who could operate in an unrestricted way, interacting with people of all ages. She's still my buddy too. Amazingly Sylvie ended up with fan sites all over the world. She is a Verbot.

I live in the Colorado High Country raising my high altitude Koi and tending to my Bonsai between flights to various parts of the world for university presentations, conferences, and exploration. I write everyday and I'm working on my first novel. Let's just say it's going to be a bit different.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for all TrueSpace 2 artist, March 13, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Caligari Truespace2 Bible (Bible Series) (Paperback)
I purchased TrueSpace 2 because I was interested in 3D art. Like many others, I thought it was "cool". However, after struggling with the users manuals that came with the program, I set TrueSpace aside for about six months. Then one day, I happened to be walking through Fry's Electronics and spotted this book "Caligari TrueSpace 2 Bible". I always heard rave reviews about the Photoshop bible that is also published by IDG books. Well, I thought, if it is half as good as the Photoshop book, it might be worth taking a look at. I was not dissapointed. The book is excellent! I can hardly put it down. It explains things in laymens terms and before you know it you are creating complex objects and animations... easily! I love this book. It's got me hooked on 3D. Peter Plantec (the author) does a wonderful job of not only teaching through example, but really gets you excited about 3D modeling. It's like he is almost in the room with you, guiding you, teaching you. He makes it fun and has a gentle, and somewhat humorus way of writing. I can't recommend this book enough. -Brian M. 5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book, October 16, 2003

I started using TrueSpace back when version 2 was the newest release. I figured I could play around and build some small videos for myself. This book walked me through many of the functions and allowed me to apply what I have learned. Practically from the first page, the author walks your step by step in creating your own object. Now with version 6 available, I wish this author would write an update to keep us all in the know. Even now I still refer back to this book for missing tips and function that I don't use offen enough to remember. If you like to use TrueSpace and really want to develop something not only recognizable, but high-end I suggest you start with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alert! 3D Junkies, you NEED this book!, October 3, 1998
This review is from: Caligari Truespace2 Bible (Bible Series) (Paperback)
Even though Caligari has recently released trueSpace 4, this book covering version 2 is a must have. The easy to follow and understand print will have you creating breathtaking graphics in no time at all. Caligari's trueSpace is truly outstanding only if you learn to use it properly. This book will do that for you.
