More of a three and a half stars book, but not quite four,
By
This review is from: Call After Midnight & Under The Knife: Call After Midnight\Under The Knife (Paperback)
You must first know that these novels have been miscategorized. The book jacket claims that it is both romance and a thriller. The two books under one cover are neither. They are closer to the romantic suspense genre, but do not expect much from the romance angle of the story. Unfortunately, the author never portrayed a strong emotional connection between the characters other than the sexual attraction to one another. Perhaps because the story lines were condensed down to fit the two books together, but I feel that getting the reader to connect with the characters is vital to a successful novel. Those stories that touch our soles or cause us to shed a tear, even to laugh, or feel the familiarity are the books that stay with us long after the last page has been read. These books were adequate, but I would be interested in reading one of this authors full novels to see if any of them have what it takes to be a success.
Here are a few descriptions of the books as described from the back of the jacket. CALL AFTER MIDNIGHT Newlywed Sarh Fontaine has just received the news that every wife fears? her husband of two months has died abroad in a hotel fire. Yet convinced he's still alive, Sarah forges an alliance with Nick O'Hara from the U.S. State Department that has the two of them crisscrossing Europe on a desperate search for signs of life. As Sarah and Nick become quarry in the secret world of international espionage, they must risk everything for answers that may prove fatal. UNDER THE KNIFE For attorney David Ransom, it begins as an open-and-shut case: malpractice. Then Dr. Kate Chesne storms into his office, daring him to seek out the truth- that she's being framed. When another patient turns up dead, David starts to believe her. Somewhere in the Honolulu hospital, a killer walks freely. Now David finds himself asking the same questions Kate is desperate to have answered. Who is next and why? Is it worth buying? If you are looking for a light read to pass the time, than this duo of books isn't bad for the price.

Couldn't Finish,

These books must have been early-Gerritsen. They were nothing like her latest stories which have gripping plots and interesting people. These two seemed rather childish by comparison and I didn't finish either of them.

REPRINT!!!!!!! NOT NEW STORIES!!!!,
By LuvsLabs09 "Nunya" (Ca.) - See all my reviews

I am giving this book 1 star not because of the story content but because of the duplicity to the consumer!!! This is advertised as a new book by Gerritsen. Its NOT! These books were written in the late 80's. The publisher reprinted them, put 2 together and marketed it as a new book. That's DECEITFUL!!
Im sick and tired of publishers/authors who throw a new cover on an old book and trick the public into buying what they think is a new book. Thats why I refuse to pay for books. I request them at the library..for free!~

Let me start by saying that I am a HUGE Tess Gerritson fan! I love her Rizzoli and Isles series, and am looking forward the the TV series of the same name. That being said, these two titles were not up to Ms. Gerritson's usual fast paced and breath taking crime/medical thrillers. After a book like, say, The Surgeon, these were a little flat. They were, I understand, earlier works of hers, and she has certainly come into her own now. For my money, buy the newer ones (new, of course. Please support the authors you enjoy by buying their books new.) Skip the early works.

I love this ladies books, and I know that this book is going to be a great read the same as many others I have by her. It came like "NEW" and I bought it used, but whoever had it, respects books, like I do.

Two Thrillers,
By Meredith "Book Critique" (Vancouver British Columbia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Call After Midnight & Under The Knife: Call After Midnight\Under The Knife (Paperback)
These books were really good, because there were two books that were within this book.
The Call after Midnight- this book was about a woman by the name of Sarah, and her supposive newlywed husband Geoff Fontaine. Little does she know that the man that married, may not realistically turn out to be who she thought that it was. Read the book, and find out more about this adventure. Under the Knife- is about the adventure of Kate Chesne an anthesiologist and then a surgeon by the name of Guy Santini. Follow them through their adventures, by reading the book. Both of these adventures were stories that you would not want to put down! |
