5.0 out of 5 stars Life-changing
In two words: Life Changing. This book really goes straight to the heart and is able to do some amazing things in your walk if you let it. From the beginning, David Nassar gets you. And that's what's so amazing about this book--he really "gets" the people he's writing to. He let's you know that it's not worth it if you aren't gonna take it seriously--and you have to...

3.0 out of 5 stars markings
the description had said there was no writing or marking in the book, and there was marking in two different chapters, which was kind of frustrating because it is a devotional book in which you have to fill in answers to different questions, so I had to cross out the previous answers. other than that though, the book is great.

But when you reach the end of those 40 days you'll never look back and regret it. The book gets you thinking, is meant to be went through as a journal, and offers a really easy way to memorize several different verses by the time you're finished. Everybody should do this...an awesome book to go through in a discipleship group or with an accountability partner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Devotional I've read, March 5, 2009
This review is from: A Call to Die: A 40 Day Journey of Fasting from the World & Feasting on God (Hardcover)
This book is the best devotional I have used. It is direct and to the point. We make our lives too much about us. This book helps you focus on God, the One who deserves to be the focus of our lives. Through Biblical truth and personal stories, David Nassar takes you on a 40-day journey that will change your life (if you let it). This book has depth that a lot of devotionals lack. Each day is not conveniently contained on one page. It takes time (one hour suggested) each day to take in what David has to say, to answer his thought provoking, personal questions, to memorize scripture and to chart a plan to implement what you learn. This does not focus on making you feel good. This focuses on being honest with God, denying our desires, serving the Creator, and finding a life rich in the Godly rewards, not earthly ones.

Buy it, read it, live it.

This is a great devotion for anyone who thinks they want a closer relationship to God. It helps you truely stay committed to one thing and it helps you daily memorize scriptures, pray, and truely learn to sacrifice something that is getting in the way of God. If you want to strength your relationship with God or just want to get rid of something unholy in your life, do this devotion, it will change your life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Take Up the Challenge!, November 17, 2009
This review is from: A Call to Die: A 40 Day Journey of Fasting from the World & Feasting on God (Hardcover)
If you want to try a forty-day book to help you get closer to the Lord, this is the book to read. It is not meant for the casual believer. It is meant to bring you, the Christian, into a level a maturity that you did not possess prior to reading it. You read a chapter a day along with Bible passages, reflect on the principles, and put them into action. By doing this over forty days you inculcate the process of learning Biblically, self-reflecting and self-challenging at a level you did not previously possess, even if you are a mature Christian. The process is eminently Biblical. I have kept reviewing the Bible memory verses now for the past two years and they do bring challenge and comfort. The illustrations and anecdotes are very easy to relate to, and often because of that, they push us and challenge us.

As a devotional, yes, it is one of the best, maybe the best of this decade. It drives you to a greater love for God and His Word, and can permanently change your attitude over forty days, if you are willing. Take up the challenge!

5.0 out of 5 stars "We need help!!", March 18, 2009
This review is from: A Call to Die: A 40 Day Journey of Fasting from the World & Feasting on God (Hardcover)
This book truly blessed my life. I think many times we forget how selfish we can be by nature. This book helps you to look introspectively into your life daily to seek God's glory and not your own. In addition, the daily devotion helped me to understand some of the things I had been wrestling with spiritually. It is very easy reading, with only 2-3 pages of insight and narratives to read along with daily journaling. I recommend this book for anyone looking to go to the next level in their spiritual life. Two thumbs way up!!!

I purchased this book for several of my 9th grade girls after having done it myself in high school. It is still one of the best studies out there and can change lives. I highly recommend it!
