The first time I heard this CD after buying it, I was so blown away by the sound that I couldn't wait to share it with a blues appreciating friend. Guy Davis writes and performs such wonderful acoustic blues. His voice is so awesome to listen are thick. His songs are written with sensitivity and humor. Many of his songs reflect personal experience and show the strong family connection which he feels. Davis tells how Thanksgiving Day gives the feeling of a little child trying to steal peaks of the meals preparation, Gee the Mule is a humorous song about his father and uncles learning to plow with a mule, The Road is calling explains the sadness and loneliness of life on the road. There are many other songs on this cd which are just fun to listen to.

Fans of acoustic, delta styled blues should appreciate this cd and artist.

I have heard Guy Davis perform on two occassions at Harbourfront in Toronto, Canada. He is a dandy performer "live" and great performer to be listened to on CD. He makes each song come alive with his unique voice, guitar playing, and storytelling ability. Not to mention his harmonica playing!!!! Every song tells a story. Love this guy, "Guy"!

4.0 out of 5 stars Call Down The Thunder - Guy Davis, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Call Down the Thunder (Audio CD)
Found this album ten years after it's initial release. I'm glad I finally did find it. "Gee The Mule" is fantastic. "Mama's Gonna Fix It Right", "Georgia Jelly Roll", "Minglewood Blues" and "When You Got A Good Friend" are all infectious. A great acoustic blues album.
