2.0 out of 5 stars Works OK on unsupported hardware. September 29, 2012
By Jasper

Unfortunately the Mac has had to wait for a long time to get this game, and now that it has arrived, it can only be played with decent frames on a fairly high-tech Mac. I have a early 2010 MacBook Pro with 8 gigs of memory, hundreds of gigs of storage, a 2.4 GHz processory, and an Nvidia Geforce 320m. You can really feel the lag, but if you are a hard-core CoD fan, then you should look elsewhere. Also, Aspyr is charging so much for this game! It's almost two years old and is still $50!? That's crazy.

One last thing... the multiplayer is Mac-to-Mac only, so there are only about two or three lobbies going at one time, and many of them will give you very high ping.

Is it worth the $50? Absolutely not. Maybe $20. If you have a low-stat Mac like me, than pass it up entirely.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrendous Multiplayer Performance!! November 18, 2012
By CMOS
Platform for Display:Mac Download|Edition:Standard
I am a huge COD fan and have purchased every installment over the years for Mac. I've rarely had any complaints running these games on Mac Pro hardware. Here are a few of the highlights that Aspyr has cooked up (only took them 2 years to port something this bad) for Mac users, especially with the multiplayer version:

1) Quad 2.8 GHz Mac Pro with 1GB GPU, 12GB RAM defaults to less than 1024x768 and low quality settings. It's 2012 guys!
2) Regardless of res or quality settings the online play lags frequently, even if there's only 5 or 6 players. When there's more than 12 it's unplayable at times.
3) All servers run by Aspyr and connected to Game Center. No private servers, no PC gamers. Typically less than 200 people online.
4) The Vote feature doesn't work. Can't switch maps, vote to boot troublesome players, etc. Aspyr gives users no power to do anything.
5) Can't start your own multiplayer game / pick a map and game type from scratch.
6) Aspyr support ignores requests for help with the bad performance (not surprising considering they obviously did not test it / don't want the expense).
7) COD 4 (a 5 year old game) offers comparable graphics and much BETTER performance on exactly the same hardware.

The single player game is OK but overall this port for the Mac is lousy. Not worth $20 let alone $50.

The only saving grace is the MP maps are pretty cool and the sound effects are good but otherwise a bad experience all-around.

Will update this review if and when Aspyr makes efforts to give us more MP options, and improve performance on Radeon 5000 series cards.

UPDATE: Many people reporting trigger lag in close quarters fighting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Black Ops January 19, 2013

With a Mac there are limited games , so after Call of Duty 4, I expected and hoped that Black Ops would be even better. Unfortunately I was disappointed. Just my humble opinion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mac, call of duty black ops November 19, 2012
Platform for Display:Mac Download|Edition:Standard
I actually am very frustrated, I down loaded the game, and it has no instructions that I can find any where. I have tried to email and get no answer. When I buy the disk, it has a manual that tells you a bit about what to expect. I am trying to play this game in the dark. I have no idea how many info packet there are for each mission, and when I get stuck I can not get any help online. I am an older player, so I am not as fast as the young people but it do understand mostly how things work. I would not have spent $50 for it if I had realized that I would have to go through each mission several times. If I stop and save it always takes me back to the beginning of the mission, and now I am on the Mission where we are supposed to destroy to launch of the missile, when I finally figured out how the damn thing worked, and got it to fire, it says no ammo. Maybe three stars was too high.

2.0 out of 5 stars The game play not much improved comparing to COD4 January 11, 2013
By Max
Platform for Display:Mac Download| Edition:Standard|Verified Purchase
the single player was ok, but if you played COD4 this is not much different. The multiplayer is worse than COD4... yes it has more features, but game play and graphics are worse believe it or not. Anyway, not worth the $$
