Let me start this review by saying that I'm a seasoned Call of Duty vet who spent most of his adolescent years One Man Army noob-tubing in Modern Warfare 2. I've been there in the good times (Black Ops) and the bad (Ghosts and Advanced Warfare). Heres what I think of Black Ops 3:

Pros:
-Playing the campaign with friends is a lot of fun. This is the first time a Call of Duty has ever truly had a co-op option, and there's a decent amount of customization options to fit your playing style.
-The multiplayer is actually FUN again. This is the best we've seen so far of the Pick 10 class system, and the wildcards are actually useful. The guns are good for the most part, and as far as I can tell from almost a week of playing, there isn't one go-to gun that dominates.
-The scorestreaks are the best they've been since the killstreak days and all of them have counters.
-The maps are good for the most part, but there's really not one map I can point to and say that it's my favorite (besides nuk3town of course).
-They actually found a way to incorporate the supply drop system from Advanced Warfare without it being completely annoying, although it is still kind of annoying (more on this later).
-Zombies mode has more customization options than ever. You can now customize how your guns will look in game, and the leveling system gives us yet another incentive to kill these undead beasts.
-The frame rate is smooth and the colors are vibrant (at least for the PS4), way better than Ghosts and AW, which both looked whitewashed in my opinion.
-The gun customization options are loads of fun. You can now create your own camo or add to one that already exists, which I find as a great outlet for players to be creative.

Anymore, Call of Duty is just an arena shooter with a few RPG elements thrown in. Don't get me wrong, BO3 is a huge improvement on Advanced Warfare, but the things that made the original Modern Warfare (and the original Black Ops) are long gone. This game requires a cocktail of Red Bull, Adderall, and good old fashion crack in order to keep up with. If you're not a high teenager with ADHD, it's going to be tough to stick with this game. It's tiring rather than enjoyable. Strategy? Nope. Planning and communication? Yeah, right.

Treyarch has a history of simply refining the game that came just before it. Look at the original Black Ops, and you'll find that it emulated COD4. Look at Black Ops 2, and you'll see that it followed in lock-step with Modern Warfare 2. BO3 is a refined rehash of of AW. Treyarch is an arranger rather than a composer.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm ready for the series to get back to its roots. Slow the game back down and back away from what's become a nauseating twitch-fest that resembles Quake and Halo's bastardized offspring. It's okay to embrace your arcade roots, but it doesn't have to come at the total expense of strategy, planning, and teamwork.

Oh, and it's almost 2016: environmental destruction is long overdue.

Anyway, it's fun for a 5 or 10 minute break here and there, and it's enough to hold me until Siege comes out on 12/1.

To each their own, and you can see that by the varying reviews on this game. This is MY opinion on it. I will compare it to Ghosts and Advanced Warfare as I see it.

Campaign. A lot of people buy COD for multiplayer, but I always start by completing the campaign first.
Ghosts: 4/5
Advanced Warfare: 5/5
Black Ops 3: 2/5, and I think I am being generous.
The campaign on Ghosts was pretty good, but lacked length. I thought the best part of the AW game was the the campaign. It was 17 levels/chapters, as opposed to 11, and had a great, well-written story. BO3 is back to 11, is horribly written, lacks cohesiveness, and was just plain awful.

Multiplayer. This is where it gets a little dicey. This is how I rate the three games.
Ghosts: 5/5
Advanced Warfare: 3/5
Black Ops 3: 4/5
This is where to each their own" really comes into play. I think Ghosts is the most well balanced of the three games. Personally, I couldn't stand the exoskeletons in AW and that ruined multiplayer for me. I like BO3 better than AW due to the loss of the exoskeletons, but BO3 has its own similar futuristic features that I am on the fence on. I also haven't made up my mind on the "Specialists." I think the multiplayer levels in AW and BO3 really lack overall. Many in BO3 remind me of levels from the older games and they lack creativity. Overall, I like BO3 multiplayer more than AW, but I still don't think it is anywhere near the game that Ghosts was.

I don't play the other game-types on Call of Duty, so I can only speak for Campaign and Multiplayer. Here is how I see the games overall based on what I play.
Ghosts: 4.

This game has three parts, three separate games actually: multiplayer, campaign, and zombies. This review is for the multiplayer portion of the game because that is what I bought the game to play. The rating is only for that part of the game.

Multiplayer is you and 5 of your closest randomly-assigned noob-scrub friends against 6 experienced and skilled opponents. The game begins with you appearing on a map and being instantly killed by an opponent who somehow got there and into position well before you arrived. You resurrect directly in their line of fire and immediately die again. This process repeats until the game eventually ends with your team losing.

During the milliseconds between your deaths, you'll catch glimpses of the rest of your team huddled in the corner on the opposite side of the map. Then BAM! Your dead again.

For more fun you can buy the advanced or collectors editions of the game, which lets your corpse drop a better weapon and allows you to be buried in exclusive clothing.

Highly recommended to all gamers who enjoy viewing clips of other players killing them.
