I'll say this about the soundtrack, is that it certainly fits the mood of the game. Flap Jackson  |  1 reviewer made a similar statement

Well here it is folks. Almost 7 months after the release of the game we have the official Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 score release. For the past 7 months I've been searching through the nearly 7 hour complete score looking for the themes and pieces I love, but alas you can move that game rip aside because here we have a complete rounded listening experience.

I reviewed this score back in December based off playing the game and listening to the massive 7 hour complete game rip that made it onto the internet (don't worry, I redeemed myself by purchasing this album). With around 52-minutes on this release we get a real mixed album with full tracks and the experience is much better.

I'll recap what I said last time. Hans Zimmer started the "modern warfare" sound in 2001 with his genre defining score to Black Hawk Down. Since then many composers even along the lines of Thomas Newman (Jarhead) and Danny Elfman (The Kingdom) have tried to mimic this style. The hard electronics, electric guitar and ethnic percussions have become staple to modern warfare films. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the previous installment in this branching game series. That score was composed by Stephen Barton with heavy influence and thematic work by Harry Gregson-Williams. It's the same case here where Lorne Balfe composed this score with heavy influence and thematic work from Hans Zimmer. A few of Zimmer's collaborators also helped tackle the massive project.

So is this score Black Hawk Down 2? Not at all. In fact it's different than what Stephen Barton and Harry Gregson-Williams did last time. I think the best way to describe this score is that it's the "modern warfare" sound infused with the style of Zimmer's 90's action scores.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack! February 9, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
As I am writing this review I am listing to the soundtrack. I love playing the game and even playing online. I was talking to my wife one night, while playing the game and I was telling her it would be nice to get the soundtrack from the game. She looked it up on Amazon and found it! A few days later I downloaded it and have been so far listening to it every day! Download was easy and burned it to a disk right away. I am into military marching & classical music and love it! Even if you do not have the game the music is very moving and enjoyable. Hans Zimmer did an excellent job and they picked the right guy to do the job! All I can say is outstanding! If you love the game and purchase this product you will not be disappointed!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad soundtrack, especially for a game April 19, 2013

The scores are well produced and sound pretty good. My only peeve with this soundtrack is that it didn't have the song during the Whiskey Hotel fight, which is specifically what I was looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zimmer does it again! November 21, 2011

Hans Zimmer is a brilliant composer, and what he's done for CoD: MW2 is simply amazing. It is a piece of art.
Some of the tracks may seem a bit overwhelming, but it suits the mood and general ambiance of the game. My personal favorites would have to be 'Reveille and Retreat' and 'Infiltration'.
Listening to these tracks I can almost imagine CoD as a movie... a war series with Zimmer's score. It has a good mix of the military sounds and the heart wrenching wails of the violin, serving for epic battle music.

5.0 out of 5 stars COD Music at it's Finest August 26, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
Playing through this game I noticed that the music really sets the tone, So when I downloaded it I had high expectations, Boy were they met.

The soundtrack starts you off going through the opening titles (Hence the track) right into the desperate run to the White house roof (Extraction Point) Multiplayer (Breach) Afghanistan (Retreat and Reveille)Throwing Knives (Ordinance ;) Grief (Code of Conduct) Revenge (Protocol) and Finally Loss (Coupe de Grace which may go down as one the saddest videogame scores when put into context)

All in all a excellent companion to the game or to anyone who enjoys game music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hans Zimmer Goes To Virtual War June 2, 2010
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
When playing a video game as much as Modern Warfare 2, some of the musical beats may be engrained in their brain. And even though these beats may be short, they are there. The Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack expands upon these familiar beats into full-length tracks. The results are surprisingly good.

Most/all of the music comes from the underrated portion of the game. From the opening title credits music, to when you first walk out in a war-torn Washington DC, to the momentous end credits. The score completes the game, and since it's done by Hans Zimmer, you know it's going to be highly professional, and at least some of it is going to be memorable. I'll say this about the soundtrack, is that it certainly fits the mood of the game. It's the type of music you'd find in a war film, and action movie, or a fast-paced drama. In fact, the only problem I have with the soundtrack is the title naming. It would be nice to know which track is from which particular scene. If you know the game well enough, you can guess, but it would be nice to know specifics.

Overall, if you found yourself a fan of the music found in Modern Warfare 2, by all means check this out. They didn't have to put out this product, but they listened to the fans and gave us a great, complete package. Bravo Infinity Ward, Hans Zimmer, etc.

Soundtrack on CD?
I'm wondering as well; i don't want mp3 music but a physical copy, yet it looks like Activision is too cheap to dish one out
