4.0 out of 5 stars Call of Duty comes to the DS November 12, 2007
Platform for Display:Nintendo DS|Edition:Standard
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
First person shooters, especially first person shooters done right, are rare on the DS, and the Call of Duty series makes it's debut on Nintendo's handheld with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. For those that don't already know, Call of Duty 4 marks the series' change of scenery from World War II to the modern day war combat, and it makes a surprisingly good debut on the DS as well. The first thing you'll notice is that the game offers some surprisingly good graphics that take advantage of what the DS can do, despite some occasional hiccups that occur. The game sounds spectacular as well, and the control is tight for the most part. The only real drawbacks of Call of Duty 4 is that, like it's home console bretheren, offers a pretty short single player campaign. Multiplayer mode is fun, but somewhat flawed, thanks to no offering of online play. Despite it's few negatives, Call of Duty 4 is a more than solid FPS on the DS that is good while it lasts, and for DS owners yearning for a modern day war shooter, look no further.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game December 9, 2007
Platform for Display:Nintendo DS|Edition:Standard
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a great game. It's fun, sometimes challenging and the graphics are pretty good considering the screen size it was made for. I've played all of the Call of Duties from 2 through 4 on three different systems and if you compare it to others that are meant for a larger display, you may be disappointed. But I was rather surprised that the quality was as good as it was. There are levels which are frustrating because they are a little harder than others. So if you enjoy playing on a small portable device, and it doesn't bother you that you can't play it online, then don't hesitate to purchase Call of Duty 4 for Nintendo DS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare June 12, 2009
A Kid's Review
Platform for Display:Nintendo DS|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
First I'm not Scott, I'm his son. I got this game and it was so fun! It gives you a feel of what's really happening in the middle east. Because when people die body parts don't go flying all over or anything like that. they fall and then they disappear. then you can pick up their gun. and use it. it has good graphics and an understandable plot. it teaches you the basics then puts you to the test. it gives you hum-vees, attack copters, and missile base action as well as the basic walking (which I like best!) I like the mini games, explosives, and a special mini game in the level On Approach. Don't bother looking for cheats unless you have a game shark. or if you have a good cheat website. it does not swear at all unlike recent models. oh and when a guy gets shot it's not all gorey and stuff, it looks like gas. check out this book- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Official Strategy Guide

The fighting on the ground is intense. I would reccomend this game to anyone who likes first person shooter or just like blowing things up!!!!!!!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid but short and buggy December 27, 2007
Platform for Display:Nintendo DS|Edition:Standard
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Pros: Good sound, decent graphics. Simple fun. Physics are uninspired but if you have played CS 1.6 they are familiar. Mission objectives are well placed to get the most out of the ground levels. The explosives placement and disarming mini-games are fun. The AC-130 level is especially fun, and pleasantly unexpected given most modern combat games neglect this critical piece of air power. Weapon selection is minimal, but well rounded. 2 Assault rifles (M4 and AK47), 3 submachine guns (MP5, Mac-9 and Uzi) 1 shotgun, 1 pistol, RPG-7 in certain areas and 2 sniper rifles (Dragunov and Scout) and flash and frag grenades. I have not played the multiplayer.

Cons: Extremely short, almost too simple. The main storyline did not translate well from the console version as the cutscenes are replaced with well done but uninteresting comic book-like panels that poorly advance the story. There is a missing distinct feeling of scope and grandeur. Missions are more like arcade shooters, very 'rail' based and heavily scripted, only giving you one possible route through the map. The most tactically complex decision will be which side of a box to go around, and that is usually decided for you by the map design. The vehicle levels are the worst, no control over the vehicle at all, just the gun. Enemies are not static, and will miraculously appear where there were none before or were all killed sometimes spontaneously appearing if you move fast enough to beat the scripted event. AI is nonexistant, many enemies will take themselves out with their own grenades, and moving quietly to make the best tactical opportunity is impossible as the AI always knows where you are and starts shooting before you even come around the corner.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great FPS for the DS February 11, 2008
Platform for Display:Nintendo DS|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
this is the first FPS ive actually enjoyed on the DS. i tried metroid prime:hunters, but found the enless running around, trying to find out where to go was a bit annoying. COD is straight up running around shooting the hell out of stuff, which is right up my alley.

right away, i noticed the great graphics. granted, thats not saying alot if u compare the DS to the PSP, but i loved them nontheless. the aiming/shooting was spot on, and the only problem (as other reviewers have stated) is the double tap to zoom in on a target. often times i would be in a heated situation, and frantically try to zoom in on an enemy, only to get killed in the end due to not being able to control the scope.

a great number of weapons in this game...from sniper rifles, to grenades, to gas bombs, to shotguns. each weapon has its own strenths and advantages. my favorite is the sniper rifle, getting them right between the eyes with a head shot (head shots kill the enemies almost instantly, they can withstand several point blank shots to their bodies tho).

ovarall....great game. several different types of level design, from basic FPS, to overview, to missions on vehicles. a good variety of gameplay. it also clocks in a bit on the short side....maybe 20 hours for me to beat the game, but you can always go back and replay any missions you have beaten.

i wouldnt hesitate to recommend this game to any DS owner.
