Pointstreaks and Strike Packages

Killstreaks, benefits and abilities awarded for stringing together multiple kills, have been transformed into Pointstreaks, creating a system that rewards players both for landing kills and completing objectives. These rewards have been broken up into three different categories, known as Strike Packages:

  • Assault - Pointstreaks within this package chain together and deal direct damage. It includes classics like the Predator Missile and Attack Helicopter. Your streak resets on death.
  • Support - Pointstreaks within this package do not chain, focusing instead on surveillance and disruption. Your streak does not reset on death meaning they will respawn with you.
  • Specialist - Pointstreaks within this package are designed for advanced players. Rewards come in the form of additional perks for optimal performance. These perks last until death.
Weapon Proficiencies

Just like your player, weapons now rank up, unlocking additional attachments, reticules, camos and the new proficiency category. Weapon Proficiencies not only allow you to get better with weapons, they also allow you customize your weapons with helpful attributes such as "Kick" for reduced recoil, "Impact" for deeper penetration through hard surfaces and much more. Many proficiencies are specific to their weapons class. And all are geared towards enhancing a certain play style and can allow for efficient use of your favorite weapons in maps and game modes in which they might not otherwise be the best choice.

Modes and Match Customization

Along with the return of the fan favorites Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 introduces several new game modes. Collect dog tags from killed players, including those on your squad while you prevent the opposing squad from taking yours in Kill Confirmed mode. In Team Defender mode, grab the flag and protect the flag carrier for as long as you can to increase your team's score. In addition players will enjoy user generated match mode functionality which allows you to configure any mode how you want it and then share these over the Call of Duty: Elite online service.

2-player Co-op Special Ops Survival Mode

Special Ops cooperative action returns with a bevy of additions, including 16 new objective-based missions and the all-new Survival Mode. Team up online, locally, or play solo and face endless waves of attacking enemies throughout every multiplayer map. Purchase and customize your weapons, air support, equipment and abilities to stand up against increasingly difficult forces and land a spot on the leaderboards. Earn experience and rank up with the newly implemented progression system. The higher the rank, the more weapons, air support, and gear armories you will have available to customize so you can change your tactics on the fly. In addition to the action packed battle for freedom, the cooperative Survival Mode also serves as an effective training tool for competitive multiplayer action.

Call of Duty: Elite

Call of Duty: Elite is an online multiplayer oriented service launched simultaneously with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The service offers both free and subscription based levels of access and is dedicated to the game franchise, featuring lifetime statistics across multiple games, social-networking options, competitions, a mobile app, Facebook integration and more.

Another November, and another Call of Duty is upon us. Thousands of gamers lined up nationwide to be the first to buy the game, pop it in, and play all night long, racing to be the first to prestige (I was not one of them this year, but not by choice!).

Modern Warfare 3 picks up right where Modern Warfare 2 left off. That being the case, it might not be a bad idea to play through that campaign again (or at least the last three or four acts) so you can refresh yourself as to where it all left off over two years ago.

Coming in at just about five hours, MW3's campaign is short, even by COD standards, but it packs a punch. Without any spoilers, there are a lot of explosions, set-pieces, emotional moments, and as much drama as you'd find in a Hollywood blockbuster. Real life, this is not, but it is exciting and compelling, especially as you reach the end. While five hours may be short for some, I'm not particularly upset by it. Any longer, and it may have become sensory overload, considering how tightly packed and well paced it is. If you played and enjoyed Modern Warfare 1 and 2's single player campaigns, you will enjoy this one too.

Spec Ops is similar to both the Zombie mode from the Treyarch Call of Duty games (like Black Ops), as well as Horde mode from the Gears of War series. While I didn't put as much time into it as I should have for a comprehensive review, it's a fun mode for people who want to explore the multiplayer maps with a friend and to see how long they can stay alive.

Ah yes, the reason most people play Call of Duty nowadays. A lot of "haters" will tell you that MW3's multiplayer is exactly the same as that of MW2. In some ways, it is.

Love all the cod FPS games, but do SOMETHING about the freaking cheaters, like 300 kill point, auto aim bot, and so on, it is ruining the on line games.

It could be the perfect on line shooter, if there where no cheaters, but I know, if you banned cheaters they will sell a lot less games !!

I play video games for fun.
This game...was NOT fun for me. Not at all.

I do like that you got a year's worth of free DLC with the Hardened Edition. The extras it came backed with are pretty neat for the collector. Big plus there. You get a whole star.

The single player campaign was just a garbled mess of exploding set piece after set piece. I don't care for any of the characters who isn't Captain Price or Soap since you jump from soldier to soldier so much you have no comradery with any of them. Even when one of the "major" characters died, all I could say is.."oooh kay. That was anti climactic."

I'm getting tired of this brown and green engine where you can't make out the characters from the background.(Why is that tree shooting at me!!??) It's terrible. Just because it's War, it doesn't mean the planet suddenly lost it's hue. There is still color all around.
The whole blowing up a kid for shock value... it wasn't needed in the story and done quite tastelessly. (No there's not a tasteful way to blow up little girls). Point is, it did Nothing to advance the plot other than get into National news for attention whoring.

Having random enemies span and shoot you from all impossible angles isn't a challenge. It's god awfully frustrating. This is the game that made me want to eject it and break it into tiny pieces. I was already pissed I couldn't return the damn thing to Amazon and get my money back. MW1&2 were great.. this...is just a bastard.
Lesson, stop supporting these publishers until they can prove they can provide us with more than a yearly rehash. There's no longer any effort. Just copy, paste, print money.

Multiplayer: Same crap different toilet.

I ended up just renting this game because I've found that with most of these kinds of games, you can finish in about 5-7 hours. Sure enough, 6 hours later (3 days), I finish campaign mode. All of the games in the call of duty franchise are pretty much the same thing. Maybe a different enemy and/or part of the world, but the same general concept. Nothing wrong with that if you enjoy them, but if you didn't like the first one (or whichever one you may have started at), you probably won't like any of them. I don't have a whole lot of specifics to comment on, it's a pretty straight forward war style game where your only real objective is to kill all enemies. Simple enough.

I'm really not that big of a gamer, but I hate how games are made these days. I miss the games I played when I was a kid that were actually a challenge and once you bought the game, you had the whole game. None of the DLC BS or having to play online to get any more than 6 hours of fun out of it before putting it up on a shelf. I'm sure playing online is fun, but seems to need more attention than I have to give now that I've got a kid. Downloadable content might be cool sometimes too, but when I'm paying $60 for a game already, I don't want to go online and shell out more money just to get new maps, new skins, or new whatever else is available. This, and all of the other games like it are fun enough to play through to the finish, but I can't understand why anybody would line up at stores to be the first to have it.
