Incomplete - Skip It!,
By
This review is from: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Signature Series Strategy Guide (Paperback)
I would start by suggesting that the reviewer that said all the intel locations are mapped actually count the locations that are mapped... It is not 45 locations. One example, the second mission, there is one in the school house and one directly outside... In the guide there are no locations mapped for that mission... thus it is incomplete. The locations that are mapped are not mapped well. I ended up needing to go online for the ones that were not mapped along with several that were because it was too vague. This guide seemed to be thrown together compared to ones that they have put out before. Even based on that one aspect, why buy a guide that leaves you needing to go on the internet for the info that should be there? Skip the guide!!! I wish I had.

This Book Feels Backwards,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Signature Series Strategy Guide (Paperback)
First off, this guide has a cover price of 19.99, which you might consider reasonable given it's thickness. Amazon's price made it more reasonable for the content that it actually contains, but the book leaves some pretty significant questions unanswered.
I specifically bought this book to get ahead in the multiplayer mode. I bought the game the day it came out, and there was not yet an online community with the information that I wanted. I was looking for a list of unlockable titles and callsign badges, and how to get them. While the guide does have a multiplayer section - it has some useful information on custom classes, mutiplayer mission maps and game modes - it completely lacks ANY information on Titles or Badges and how to get them. This book feels backwards. The authors spent tons of time and resources on the single player mode - that's evident. But they didn't seem to put a ton of effort into the multiplayer section. It's my experience that with games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, this is the exact opposite of how people play this game and enjoy this product.

For a first time player on PS3 and C.O.D, the book should explain how to operate equipment, which weapons will take down air attacks, how to pick up and place equipment, many other details that would be helpful.

I purchased this guide very soon after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 came out. My primary goal was information for multiplayer. I wanted to know about unlocks, detailed weapon information (damage comparisons with distance), and prestige modes. Unfortunately, this guide does not have any of that. It is quite adequate for singleplayer, but I would say that one does not need a guide for singleplayer -- even on veteran. The only benefit I really obtained from it was finding intel. You can find that online, however.
It does give some multiplayer advice, such as recommend class setups and maps, but class setup is typically relative to the way one plays the game. Overall, it might not be a bad thing to have if you know nothing about Call of Duty. For you veterans that want in depth coverage, however, you will find much more info online for free.

Not as good as I expected, but still absolutely AMAZING!!,
This review is from: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Signature Series Strategy Guide (Paperback)
I have finished the Single Player already (before I bought the book), so that part didn't help me. I read through it anyway and it covers almost everything you need to know.
As far as the Spec Ops section goes, it was really helpful. I wish though that it had explained tips to beating it, instead of just the objective that you are trying to do. But overall, it helped me get 69 stars. Now, on to the Multiplayer section of the book, of the 303 pages, multiplayer in the book is pages 146-303 (over half the book). It covered some really good stuff. They told you classes that would work for every major game mode, and every map. In some pictures of the killstreaks, they aren't even what they look like (maybe CoD4, IDK, I haven't played it). They also do that for Deathstreaks. In one picture the deathstreak Copycat is an actual cat, and they have 5 deathstreaks in one picture. Even though they never mention the 5th deathstreak once in the book, it still urk's me. Overall, a very impressive book. This has helped tremendously in gaining more skill for online gameplay. It also increased some information on my MW2 website: [...] Check it out

This guide does leave you wanting to know more about multiplayer. So, then you will go buy the prestige edition. Save your money and buy the other one first.

If your having trouble in the campaign and you dont feel like taking 10 seconds to look it up on the internet then by all means buy it. If your thinking that this book tells you how to get all the titles and emblems etc...Your wrong. The book Doesnt even give that many big strategies on levels in MP they just pretty much tell you what weapons to choose from which is complete BS. If your a rich kid and you dont like using the internet then get it...other than that i suggest you save your money for something else.

I would think the primary purpose of buying a guide to an FPS would be a guide to the weapons. You know, since you are firing weapons the entire game. I wanted some insight into the weapons: advantages, disadvantages, characteristics, history, number of shots to kill/variables, exact power stats, etc... Unfortunately in over 300 pages....nothing. They only copy/paste the in-game charts.
The game itself, along with MW and WAW, gives you no info on the weapons, origination of, which armies use them, etc.. Why use a Famas over an M16 or M4? You won't know from reading this book. Totally useless to me, as I don't need help with campaign or multiplayer walkthroughs. You can find that stuff on the internet. |
