World at War Collectors Edition: The Truth!,

My wife bought this for me as an early christmas present. I wholly enjoyed the previous CoD games, and was really looking forward to this one.
Unfortunately, the CE version is completely NOT worth your money. Let's list the bonuses, and the problems with each: The Canteen: This is, in fact, NOT a canteen. It's more like a flask. Oh... and it's welded shut. A hastily applied sticker over the packaging on the back tells us that it is "For display only, not for drinking" Ok, that's not a huge issue, I mean, it's just a gimmick, right? The other bonuses are pretty good still! The "Day 1 edge": First off, let me say that most of this will be second-hand information, because MY REDEMPTION CODE WAS BLANK. From what I understand, there are a lot of people having issues with codes not working, codes not received, etc. In addition, the high-level gun is only available if you play the class it's for. It's NOT fully available... you cannot use it to create your own class. For all of the problems people are having with their collector's editions, there have been little to no response from the makers. Their support forum has over 100 pages of posts from people having problems, and there is not a single post from an admin or developer, answering them. If you want to buy the collector's edition, just keep in mind that you very well may not get your money's worth. BUYER BEWARE!

I got this game the day it came out, but the store only had the collector's edition. I usually don't splurge on the "collector's edition" of anything, but decided to give it a try, mainly for the special weapon and week of double XP.
First off, the tin is ok, but nothing special. The flask is a joke. As others have mentioned, it's welded shut... totally useless, even as a paperweight. The game itself - I haven't played single player all the way through. I'd say it's average from what I've seen... nothing special there. Most people will buy this for the multiplayer. First thing after install, you have to download a patch before you can even play online. After that, this game is basically COD4 with a WWII theme. They did incorporate the prestige ranking this time and vehicle perks are now available, but that's most of what's new. Finding a game online is frustrating... when you select a server from the list, the game will attempt a connection and then invariably fail. I found that if you then (re)select your online profile, then look at your ranks and challenges or customize your weapons, within a few minutes it will reconnect to the server. If you go back and try to connect to the game server, it will connect (if it's not full, etc...) I'm sure patches to fix this are coming.... someday. TIP: When you find a good sever, add it to the favorites. I never seem to have these problems when connecting to servers in my favorites. As others have said, you can't customize the kit with the FG42 until you unlock it at lvl 42. Have not gotten my codes to work... the website says invaild code. Probably the biggest gripe I have is that respawns are not "intelligent". I will respawn and then an opponent will respawn behind me and gun me down, or I will respawn right in the middle of several opponents with no time to react. This is no different than COD4 and is more a matter of personal preference, although I don't mind so much when opponents spawn in front of me. :) Overall, online multiplayer is good, single player is average, but the extra paid for the "collector's edition" extras was not worth it. Stick to the regular edition.

I buy nearly all my games from Amazon (along with everything else mind you), so this review is no reflection on Amazon. Amazon has always treated me well. I've been invited to review products before by Amazon, but this is the first time I feel compelled to do so. With that said, all I can say about this game is "WEAK". Very "WEAK". I've purchased about every shooter out there (mostly from Amazon) , and I really expected more out of this. COD World at War is so scripted, so linear, and so predictable it is a shame. How do you totally screw up the weapons sounds this bad? How do you do it? This game is so linear it makes PacMan look like Far Cry (Far Cry fans will know what I am talking about). And as mentioned before by other reviewers, the flask is phony as well.
I dunno this game just reeks of "B" team effort at best. 11/19/08 An update. Ok, I was a little harsh at first. I have to give CODWaW good marks for "battle immersion effort". Forget the weapon sounds, but fix the AI and the linear bit and you got a decent game. BTW- you can get a decent flask here: http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Steel-Satin-Finish-Liquor/dp/B000KZY8JY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1227151484&sr=8-1 2115|R5JE2WZMV3HXY;2115|R33XDG1DPGAIZD;2115|R3P2VKGDNXBXOS;
